The Biomedical Materials Research Laboratory of the Institute of Biology and Medical Engineering of the Guangdong Academy of Sciences has constructed a multifunctional natural hydrogel dressing that is easy to prepare and low in cost in order to solve the current problems of incomplete function of skin dressings for clinical repair. This study selected a β-glucan-Kedran polysaccharide with immune regulatory function as the base material, and used a unique annealing technology to load the natural polyphenol- tannic acid into the triple helix structure of the Kedran polysaccharide. In this way, composite hydrogels with excellent physical and chemical properties were produced. The hydrogel also shows certain temperature-sensitive properties, can slowly release tannic acid, and continuously exerts multiple functions such as hemostasis, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. Further animal experimental research showed that the natural hydrogel can accelerate the healing of defective skin.

The composite hydrogel of codran polysaccharide and tannic acid based on annealing technology accelerates the repair of skin defects

This research uses engineering technology to combine two natural substances to construct a hydrogel with multiple functions. The manufacturing process is highly reproducible, the physical and chemical properties of the hydrogel are controllable, and the physiological functions are diverse, which provides new ideas for the further development of new healing wound dressings.
