Starting yesterday (October 6), the application channel for aerospace payload experts in Hong Kong and Macao has officially opened, and there is a chance to "rush out of space" as early as three years!

China Manned Space Engineering Office said on the 52nd that China's fourth batch of preparatory astronaut selection work has been launched recently and will select payload experts in Hong Kong and Macao for the first time. Experts in the field of aerospace in Hong Kong said that this not only gives Hong Kong scientific researchers opportunities, but also a good opportunity for the SAR government to develop aerospace science and technology and realize the "technology-driven port development".

Hong Kong team will participate in Chang'e 7 lunar exploration mission

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the national manned space project. The country continues to set a precedent in aerospace science and technology industry and ranks among the forefront of the world in the aerospace field. Hong Kong has a deep foundation in basic scientific research, and many scholars and experts have been highly recognized by the state and even internationally. In recent years, the SAR government has strongly supported local universities in conducting research related to aerospace science and technology and has achieved many results. In fact, Hong Kong has long participated in the country's deep space exploration project. Professor Wu Bo's team at the Deep Space Exploration Research Center of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University has been participating in the exploration missions of Chang'e 3, 4, 5 and Tianwen 1 since 2009, and is now participating in the Chang'e 7 lunar exploration project.

The fourth phase of the China Lunar Exploration Project passed the project approval last year and has now entered the implementation stage. The fourth phase of the project mainly involves several landings at the South Pole of the Moon and build lunar scientific research station at the South Pole of the Moon. Among them, the Chang'e 7 mission will land at the South Pole of the Moon, carry out polar environmental and resource exploration, especially the exploration of the moon's water distribution.

This Chang'e 7 mission payload competition is the best and encourages the application unit to jointly apply with advantageous scientific research institutions at home and abroad, and Hong Kong scientific research institutions can also participate in the application. The first astronaut in the country that realizes the Chinese people's thousand-year-old flying dream Yang Liwei said, "Opportunities will only be left to those who are prepared", but in fact, opportunities are left to those who are prepared.

Selection of payload experts is an opportunity to develop aerospace technology

Li Jiachao said that this is an exciting good news and is of great historical significance. He said, "The country's selection of payload experts in Hong Kong marks that the country encourages and welcomes Hong Kong compatriots to make contributions to national development, marks the country's confidence in Hong Kong's scientific research level, and also marks the country's concern for the development of Hong Kong's youth, giving Hong Kong people the opportunity to realize the Aerospace dream and contribute to the country."

Associate Professor Yu Hongyu, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, said that this will become an opportunity for Hong Kong to give Hong Kong students more opportunities to participate in national aerospace projects, which is also a great incentive for the SAR government to develop aerospace science and technology and Hong Kong's re-industrialization development. He believes that if the SAR government can seize the opportunity, develop in the direction of aerospace science and technology and invest appropriate resources, it will help "technology to develop the port" .

Assistant Professor Wu Ganhong of the Department of Aeronautics and Civil Aviation Engineering of Hong Kong Polytechnic University also believes that 's recruitment is a good opportunity for Hong Kong students to gain a deeper understanding of the national aerospace development , and this recruitment will also become a milestone in the development of Hong Kong's aerospace.

Professor Wang Fuli, Dean of the School of Science and Technology of the Metropolitan University of Hong Kong, said: "The country selects payload experts in Hong Kong for the first time, which is of great historic significance. We are very excited about this, and it also represents the country's confidence and importance to Hong Kong's scientific research level. will fully support the relevant selection work and contribute to the national manned space project ."

payload expert selection requirements

payload experts are professional scientific researchers mainly responsible for carrying out space experiments/experimental research, operating and using space experimental equipment, and cooperating with other astronauts in the flight crew to carry out station management and other daily work. The SAR government will arrange the primary election of load experts, and further selection will be carried out by relevant mainland parties.

primary election will be recruited mainly through the following institutions:

  • 11 local universities in Hong Kong;
  • Five research centers of the Hong Kong government (including automotive technology research and development center, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute . Hong Kong Textile and Apparel R&D Center, Logistics and Supply Chain Diversified Technology R&D Center, Nano and Advanced Materials R&D Institute) and Hong Kong Productivity Promotion Bureau ;
  • Hong Kong Science Park and Cyberport Park scientific research institutions/enterprises;
  • Hong Kong government departments and Hospital Authority .

A spokesperson for the Hong Kong government said: "The SAR government has been actively cultivating more innovative talents, in order to nurture more innovative talents for Hong Kong and even the country and contribute to the country's scientific and technological development. The country's selection of payload experts in Hong Kong this time just gave patriotic and Hong Kong citizens the opportunity to contribute to the national development, show their ambitions, and call on people who meet the basic requirements and are interested in the manned space industry to actively participate."
