At 10 a.m. on February 19, 2020, Kong Li, who was on duty in the emergency room of the hospital, received a call and was sent to Wuhan as a member of the critical care inspection team of the National Health Commission. Kong Li said that on the evening of the 18th, he received a call from the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, informing him to be on standby at any time and go to assist Wuhan. "I didn't think it would be so fast at that time. My wife washed my clothes for me the next morning, but when I was about to leave, the clothes had not dried yet."
At that time, Jinan could not go directly to Wuhan and needed to transfer to Beijing. At 3:30 pm, Kong Li and other medical team members met in Beijing and boarded the train to Wuhan. "Although time was tight at that time, there was not much panic or fear." Kong Li said that when the hospital recruited the first batch of medical team members to help Hubei, he signed up. On the way to Wuhan, what he thought about was "What should I do if I go?" "What are the difficulties?" "What are the next step?"
Kong Li went to fight the epidemic five times to guide the traditional Chinese medicine diagnosis and treatment of new coronary pneumonia. This is not the first time Kong Li has "fighted" with the epidemic. In 2003, he participated in the fight against "SARS". After more than 30 years of medical practice, Kong Li has had many experiences in treating acute infectious diseases and responding to public health emergencies. In 2008, Kong Li went to Sichuan with the first batch of medical rescue teams in Shandong to participate in earthquake relief and disaster relief, risking the aftershocks to save people from danger.

The Emergency Critical Care Medicine Center of Shandong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where Kong Li is located, was formerly the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine of Shandong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It was the department that independently established a department (first-level department) in 1985 and is one of the earliest emergency departments established in Shandong Province. It undertakes the comprehensive treatment and teaching tasks of critically ill patients in the hospital. It is a key specialty in the "13th Five-Year Plan" of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and an emergency medical center integrating medicine, education and research.
In October 2009, with the development of the hospital and the opening of the East Hospital District, the hospital established the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine in the East District, forming a situation of common development of emergency critical care medicine in the East and West Districts.
In 2020, the department completed the third phase of reconstruction project and established three major centers: Emergency stroke center, chest pain center, and trauma center, integrating pre-hospital 120, in-hospital emergency, emergency ward, and intensive care. At present, an integrated medical system of pre-hospital emergency, emergency clinic, emergency ward, and intensive care ward has been formed. The structure is complete and provides one-stop emergency medical services for emergency, critical and serious patients.
In March 2021, Shandong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine established the Institute of Critical Critical Care of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and built an advantageous platform for medical teaching and research to further carry out research on critical and critical care of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine.As the hospital and departments develop more and more, in November of the same year, the hospital established the current emergency intensive care medicine center. At present, the center has become a key specialist in the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the chairman of the Emergency Professional Committee of the Shandong Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the chairman of the Emergency Medical Professional Committee of the Shandong Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. It is also a training center for doctoral and master's students in emergency medicine and internal medicine in traditional Chinese medicine, and a national key clinical emergency department in the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Kong Li said that the main direction of the next step is to strive to strengthen the basic and clinical research of critically ill patients in combination with traditional Chinese and Western medicine, improve the level of self-diagnosis and treatment, realize the coordinated development of the center's medical teaching and research, and provide patients with better medical services.
Continuously inherit and breakthrough, promoting the development of traditional Chinese medicine
As the emergency intensive care department of the traditional Chinese medicine hospital, under the premise of excellent Western medicine technology, it reflects the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine. Kong Li introduced that in recent years, the center has successively carried out monitoring and treatment technologies such as PICCO hemodynamic monitoring, non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, bedside fiber bronchoscopy treatment and alveolar lavage, bedside B-ultracheal ultrasound, tracheal intubation, percutaneous minimally invasive tracheotomy, central venous catheterization and other monitoring and treatment technologies. Life support technologies such as bedside hemofiltration (CRRT), bedside plasma replacement, artificial liver treatment (DPMAS), ECMO (artificial membrane lung) provide solid guarantees for the rescue of critical and critical illnesses.
