The little prince said that they should sleep well and grow up quickly. The professor replied that they will not grow up again.
OK, the little prince is already very satisfied with their size.
The next day, we went to the insect store to buy feeding supplies on a typhoon day in the heavy rain.
stag beetles require four-piece sets, plastic insect feeding box, insect fermentation wood chips, easy-to-climb bark, branches, etc., and insect-specific jelly.
The stag beetle is large in size and requires a lot of space. The male is very aggressive, so it is best to feed each individually. The male and female must be separated. It is best to raise one of the same breed. For stag beetles under 50mm, a 20cm insect feeding box is enough. If it is a large stag beetle above 50mm, a 30cm insect feeding box is required.
Insect fermentation wood chips should be placed about 5cm. The female stag beetle likes to get into wood chips. In summer, in order to prevent mold, it needs to be replaced once a month and a half. In other seasons, depending on the situation, change the wood chips when they are dirty.
In order to facilitate the climb of male stag beetles, bark, branches, etc. should also be placed. Also, if the stag beetle does not have bark or branches after turning over, it cannot turn over itself, which is very exhausting. Therefore, placing the bark and branches can not only simulate the living environment of the stag beetle and increase the ornamentality, but also make the stag beetle survive better.
Stag beetles like sweets, such as honey, apple, pear, banana, etc. However, if you give them fruits and vegetables, you need to change the fermented wood chips every 2 to 3 days. For ease of feeding, you can choose a 16g high-protein insect-specific jelly. The plastic sealing film of insect-specific jelly is cut into a cross shape with a knife to facilitate stag beetles to absorb.
If the stag beetle is above 18℃, it is active before October in Japan. If it is below 18℃, it will hibernate after November in Japan.
In summer, when the room temperature is above 35℃, the stag beetles should be kept in a cool place. In winter, room temperature is good, don't put them in an air-conditioned room or next to the stove. Because if the temperature rises in winter, the stag beetle will wake up from its hibernation state.
If you let stag beetles hibernate in winter, they can extend their lifespan. Generally speaking, there is no problem in raising it for 2 to 3 years. If well-raised, you can live up to 4 to 5 years.
So in winter, you need to prepare for hibernation for stag beetles. Add water to make the insect fermentation wood chips moisturize the entire body, and seal the mouth of the insect feeding box with plastic film to prevent the insect fermentation wood chips from drying out.
5 In May, you can pair the stag beetles and keep the male and female in the same insect feeding box. Spawn in June. It will become a larva in April next year. After another 1 to 5 years of feeding, it becomes a pupa. In summer, it turns into an adult.
This is the first time we have raised stag beetles, so we just want to raise them.
If this winter can make the stag beetles hibernate well, I believe we can also raise them in the next 4 years.
