The world's largest single-phase energy storage battery, Crimson Storage, is currently in operation in the California desert in the United States. Crimson Storage is also the second largest energy storage project currently in operation. Designed with a 350 megawatt (MW)/1400 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery, the energy storage project, on 2,000 acres, broke ground in 2021.

The energy storage battery project is supervised by Canadian Solar and provides multiple battery storage systems, with Axium Infrastructure and solar and storage developer Recurrent Energy becoming the long-term owner of Crimson Storage.

Residentials are typically powered by a single-phase power supply, and the project is expected to store and dispatch sufficient electricity per year on average to power more than 47,000 households. Two long-term contracts: a 14-year, 10-month 200 MW/800 MWh contract with Southern California Edison, and a 150 MW/600 MWh contract with Pacific Gas and Electricity.
