At the intersection of Boaidao and Minzu Road in , Hebei District, , there is a former residence of Pan Yugui. This is a solemn building with Chinese and Western style. It turned out to be the private property of Bao Guiqing, the Fengtian warlord, . Bao Guiqing had some experience in architectural design and had personally designed and supervised the building.
This building is located on the east and west, with a protruding middle. The main entrance is supported by load-bearing columns, forming a foyer. On both sides are arc-shaped corridors supported by load-bearing columns. The structure of the second floor foyer is similar to that of the first floor, and the third floor is a balcony and a treasure gourd-shaped guardrail. The roof has double slopes, red tiles, and the shape is the hard top of traditional buildings, with a Chinese style. The building is a mixed water wall, with lime broken blocks, and the square windows are all covered with stone windows and decorated with carvings.
This solemn and luxurious building is also a representative of the old foreign buildings in the Italian Concession, but his old owner Pan Yugui's reputation is so bad! He is a famous traitor.
Pan Yugui was from Yan County, Hebei Province. He was born in the tenth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1884). His father Pan Wenlou became the prefect. Pan Yugui once passed the imperial examination and went to Waseda University in Japan to study law, and had a good impression of Japan. After returning to China, he was highly valued and served as the Senate of the State Council in 1923 and Deputy Director of the Jinpu Railway Bureau.
Pan Yugui's career as a traitor officially began in the 1930s. In June 1935, he and Shi Yousan and Bai Jianwu launched the "Pei Ping Autonomy". In December 1935, when Song Zheyuan was appointed chairman of the Hebei-Chahar Government Affairs Committee, Pan Yugui was appointed director of Song Zheyuan's Government Affairs Department and senior consultant of the Pingjin Garrison Command. On the eve of the July 7 Incident, the 29th Army formulated a detailed combat plan. Pan Yugui, the Chief of Administration, used his position to secretly leak the plan to the Japanese army. So much so that Nanyuan was later lost, the 29th Army was defeated, and senior generals such as Tong Linge and Zhao Dengyu died, and the Japanese army further captured Pingjin.
After the 29th Army was forced to retreat south, Pan Yugui stayed behind and publicly surrendered to the enemy, becoming the director of the puppet Peking Police Station, claiming, "Everyone who is willing to be a traitor, stay in Beiping , I, Pan Yugui, protect him; if you don't want to be a traitor, be careful." On January 17, 1938, he served as the mayor of the puppet Tianjin again. It was actually not easy to work in Tianjin. On the one hand, he needed to suppress the rising anti-Japanese sentiment, and on the other hand, he had to retreat from the assassination of the Military Control Commission and the Anti-Japanese Anti-Traitor Group.
1945 After Japan surrendered to , Pan Yugui was trapped by the Kuomintang Military Affairs Bureau in Peking on December 5. His family was dealing with him everywhere, but he actually saved his life and was detained in Shanghai Tilanqiao Prison to serve his sentence. On November 12, 1961, he died of illness in prison.
