Anhui is also a large province with a total permanent population of more than 61 million. The province has 16 prefecture-level cities, among which Hefei, Fuyang , Suzhou , etc. are large population cities.
However, according to the energy level of Anhui's central cities, there are two provincial central cities, namely Hefei and Wuhu .
1. Hefei, the provincial main central city, will strive to become a national central city and upgrade to a megacity
Hefei is the capital of Anhui, the first economic city, the first population city in the province, and the largest city in scale. It is naturally the main central city for development in the province.
However, Anhui has a higher goal for Hefei, which is to strive to become a national central city.
The main direction of Anhui's current development is to connect with Yangtze River Delta . The Yangtze River Delta is the largest economy in my country, and the strong market is like clouds. If Hefei can stand out and become a national central city, it can extend the development axis of the Yangtze River Delta from Nanjing to Anhui Province, which is of great significance to the development of the whole province.
However, it is really difficult for Hefei to become a national central city.
Hefei was not on the list among the 14 megacities announced by the country last year. However, this data is based on the population data of Qipu in 2020. At that time, the urban population of Hefei was only more than 50,000 from the threshold of megacities.
According to common sense, after several years of development, Hefei should have reached the threshold of megacities.
However, last year, Hefei caused a misunderstanding of a self-proclaimed megacity, so it has not been officially announced now. However, the difficulty of upgrading is very small, and the goal should have been achieved.
2, provincial sub-center city Wuhu, an important regional central city in the Yangtze River Delta, will be upgraded to a type I large city
Anhui has only identified one provincial sub-center city, which is Wuhu City . This number is relatively small among the provinces in the central and western regions.
, and Wuhu is also located in the eastern part of Anhui, not too far from the provincial capital Hefei. Anhui's intention is very obvious. Through the driving force of Hefei and Wuhu, the eastern cities must first integrate and develop with the Yangtze River Delta region, and then drive the development of the province through the transmission of the east, central and western regions.
Wuhu is the second largest city in Anhui, and there is no controversy. Moreover, among the prefecture-level cities in the central and western regions, Wuhu City is also relatively strong.
However, type I large cities are not an easy goal to achieve, requiring urban populations to exceed 3 million.
Wuhu was not originally large in scale. In recent years, it has been newly included in some political regions, but the total population is still less than 4 million. If Wuhu wants to be upgraded to a Type I large city, the proportion of urbanization needs to be further improved.
In fact, Wuhu seized the dividends of the last wave of abolishing counties and establishing districts. Now it has 5 municipal districts, and the number is very high among prefecture-level cities.
So Wuhu's city has always been very large, but it is still quite far from the threshold of type I large cities.
Wuwei City is a large population city in Wuhu with a permanent population of more than 800,000. If Wuhu wants to upgrade to a type I city, it needs to integrate the city into development with Wuwei. However, there is an Yangtze River barrier between Wuhu City and Wuhu City, and cross-river development is difficult.
Therefore, Wuhu needs further efforts to upgrade to a Type I large city.
