A few days ago, U.S. President Biden officially signed the “National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023” totaling US$858 billion. The new bill increases the amount authorized by $80 billion from last year, setting a record high. In order to find an excuse to increase military spending and maintain American hegemony, the bill has repeatedly exaggerated the "China threat" and hyped up issues related to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Xinjiang.
Especially on Taiwan-related issues, the United States has intensified its efforts to touch China's red lines, causing China to be highly alert. In this bill, there are more than 50 pages of negative content about the United States related to Taiwan, and the Taiwan-related content specifically reports on military assistance to Taiwan. The passed bill states that the U.S. State Department will provide Taiwan with US$10 billion in free military aid over the next five years through the so-called "Foreign Military Financing" program; in addition, the bill authorizes the provision of up to US$2 billion in military loans to Taiwan. Authorizes the president to use the "presidential appropriation authority" to divert defense supplies worth up to US$1 billion from the Department of Defense inventory to Taiwan each year.
The bill calls on the United States to invite Taiwan to participate in the Rim of the Pacific military exercises in 2024; in order to build Taiwan into a military "hedgehog" fortress, the bill also requires the U.S. State Department and Department of Defense to prioritize Taiwan's arms purchase requests. The bill adds a new so-called "Taiwan Scholars Program". The U.S. government plans to send government officials to Taiwan for exchanges every year to hold positions in Taiwan's legislative and government departments.

The latest US bill has a wide range of issues related to Taiwan. In this regard, the motherland, the mainland, has to be more vigilant. In response to the US's gross interference in China's internal affairs, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan Affairs Office, Ministry of National Defense and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress responded immediately. China requires the United States not to implement the negative China-related provisions in the relevant bill, immediately stop engaging in "using Taiwan to contain China," stop blurring, hollowing out, and distorting the one-China principle, and not to go further down the wrong and dangerous path.
