50-style military uniform
First, let’s talk about the development of military uniforms of the People’s Liberation Army. At the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the military uniforms of the People's Liberation Army troops in various places were not consistent in color. At the end of the Liberation War, the colors of the military uniforms of the Third and Fourth Field Armies had begun to be khaki or apricot. During the same period, some troops of the First Field Army and the Second Field Army also wore dark gray or light gray military uniforms. This is caused by a series of reasons such as dyeing technology and dyeing methods in various places, coupled with long-term blockade.
In the movie " vs. ", you can find that when the Huaye troops and the Zhongye troops joined forces, the colors of the military uniforms were obviously very different. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, with the basic end of large-scale wars, our country entered the stage of post-war reconstruction, resumption of production, and development and construction. At the same time, the People's Liberation Army troops have also entered the stage of regularization and begun to replace their Type 50 military uniforms. The Type 50 military uniform is the first generation of military uniforms after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The design of the military uniforms is relatively simple.
55-style military uniforms
After the replacement of the 50-style military uniforms, the military uniforms of the People's Liberation Army troops in various places were fully standardized. This was a temporary transitional military uniform and was not used long term. In the mid-1950s, our country successively launched 156 important projects, and our country began to have its own heavy industry system and military production system. On the basis of various Soviet-style weapons, our country has imitated and improved them, such as Type 59 tanks, Type 56 submachine guns, J-5 fighters, etc.
In 1955, the People's Liberation Army troops issued Type 55 military uniforms, which were the second generation of military uniforms after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Type 55 military uniform is used in conjunction with the 1955 military rank. The Type 55 military uniform draws heavily on the mature features of the Soviet military uniform, such as double-breasted design, boat-shaped cap , etc. In view of some shortcomings of the Type 55 military uniform, an improved version was launched in 1958, known as the 58 military uniform. The Type 55 and Type 58 series military uniforms were used until the mid-1960s. In 1965, due to various reasons, the People's Liberation Army stopped using the 1955 military ranks.
65-style military uniforms
At the same time, the use of the 55-style and 58-style military uniforms will be stopped. Subsequently, the entire army changed to Type 65 military uniforms. Type 65 is the third generation of military uniforms after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The design is very classic, simple and practical, and adopts the design of the liberation cap. Due to the abolition of military ranks, the Type 65 military coat mainly uses its pockets to distinguish cadres and soldiers. Cadres' jackets have 4 pockets, while soldiers' jackets have 2 pockets. The Type 65 military uniform has been used for a long time, from the 1960s to the 1980s.
Over such a long period of time, the Type 65 military uniform has been improved twice, mainly in terms of fabric, color, etc. Time has entered the late 1970s. As my country's economy continues to develop at a rapid pace, foreign exchange activities have gradually increased. The Type 65 military uniform has obviously lagged behind in terms of design style, concept, function and other aspects. In view of the problems such as the dull style and backward fabrics of the Type 65 military uniform, it is increasingly incompatible with the needs of social development and military construction.
85-style military uniform
In 1980, the People's Liberation Army began to design a new generation of military uniforms after referring to military uniforms from 12 countries. In 1984, at the military parade marking the 35th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the officers and soldiers under review wore new military uniforms. The generals on the reviewing stand were still wearing Type 65 military uniforms, which formed a sharp contrast. This new type of military uniform is the 85-style military uniform, which was unveiled in advance. Type 85 military uniforms belong to the fourth generation of military uniforms after the founding of the People's Republic of China. According to the original plan, Type 85 military uniforms were used in conjunction with military ranks. On the Type 85 military uniform, the design of the collar badge has appeared.
However, due to the impact of the million-dollar disarmament in 1985, the military rank plan was further delayed.Therefore, the collar badge of the Type 85 military uniform is matched with the badge patterns of each military branch. The time has entered the mid-1980s. Compared with the military uniforms of Western developed countries, the Type 85 military uniform still has many problems such as lagging design and single function. It cannot meet the different requirements of military operations and training. The style has not changed much, and problems such as fat trouser legs, large crotches, and lapels of summer clothes still exist; the materials used for winter and summer uniforms for cadres and soldiers below the battalion level have not improved.
87-style military uniform
In such a general environment, the 85-style military uniform cannot meet the needs of the times. In 1988, the People's Liberation Army troops issued Type 87 military uniforms. Compared with the previous series of military uniforms, the 87-style military uniforms added many new elements, such as collar , ties, suit-style uniforms, etc., which were very fashionable at the time. However, compared with the military uniforms of Western developed countries, the Type 87 military uniform still has many shortcomings. As of this time, the military uniforms of the People's Liberation Army only have regular uniforms, and there are no formal uniforms, work clothes, service uniforms and other clothing.
After various efforts, by the late 1980s, the timetable for the return of Hong Kong and Macao to the motherland had been determined. In 1997, Hong Kong was about to return to the motherland. In 1999, Macau was about to return to the motherland. In order to show the image of the People's Liberation Army as a "mighty and civilized division", the People's Liberation Army decided to design an improved version based on the Type 87 military uniform, which will be mainly used by the troops stationed in Hong Kong and Macao. Around 1994, the new military uniform was basically finalized, and some troops began to experiment. This is the Type 97 military uniform.
97-style regular uniforms
97-style military uniforms are an upgraded and improved version of the 87-style military uniforms, and are not a separate generation of military uniforms. Compared with the original Type 87 military uniform, the Type 97 military uniform has a series of elements such as name bar, service and branch logo, armband added to the regular uniform. In addition, a series of clothing and marshals such as jackets, dresses, sweaters, physical training uniforms, warrior leather shoes, and berets were distributed. Specifically, the Type 97 military uniform is very close to the military uniform system of developed countries in many aspects. Compared with 87-style clothing,
has great improvements in structure, materials, colors, clothing and accessories. The styles are more beautiful and diverse, the materials used are more scientific and reasonable, and a tri-service military uniform color system has been formed in which the Army uses brown-green as the main color, the Navy uses white and navy as the main color, and the Air Force uses azure as the main color. The Type 97 military uniform is a major attempt by the People's Liberation Army to catch up with the world's advanced level in military uniform design. Among them, many varieties are equipped by our army for the first time.
97-style military uniforms

On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong returned to the motherland. The troops stationed in Hong Kong wore brand-new Type 97 military uniforms and took over various camps. In December 1999, Macau returned to the motherland, and the troops stationed in Macau also wore Type 97 military uniforms. At this stage, troops in various parts of the interior still use Type 87 military uniforms.
Hong Kong's return
Until the full replacement of the 07 military uniforms in 2007, the troops stationed in Hong Kong and the Macao Garrison had been using the type 97 military uniforms. It has to be said that many of the mature experiences in the design of the Type 97 military uniforms were borrowed and used by the Type 07 military uniforms, such as service and branch logos, name columns, etc. Generally speaking, the Type 97 military uniform serves as a link between the past and the future. Back then, in the process of designing the Type 07 military uniform, a backup plan appeared. The backup plan is based on the Type 97 military uniform and further improved.
