Civil aviation bans smoking, a bloody lesson!

On December 24, 1982, in the airspace of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (old) in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, an Il-18B passenger aircraft (civil aviation registration number B-202, is one of the first five Il-18s imported from the Soviet Union by China Civil Aviation in 1959. It was 23 years old, and it was definitely an old aircraft) was preparing to enter the approach procedure. The aircraft is carrying a regular flight from China Civil Aviation from Changsha Datupu Airport to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. At that time, there were a total of 5 crew members (captain, co-pilot, navigator, radio operator and mechanic), 6 crew members and 58 passengers on the plane.

When the crew was controlling the B-202 plane flying around the five sides of the field over Baiyun Airport, he was about to enter the "side of the field", and the captain suddenly received a report from the crew: smoke was coming out of the cabin.
unit judged that it was a fire in the electrical equipment, causing smoke to enter the cabin, so it decided to continue approaching and informed Baiyun Airport tower : The cabin of this machine was smoking, and it was suspected that the equipment cabin caught fire, and requested an emergency landing. Baiyun Airport Tower immediately approved the request of Unit B-202.
A few minutes later, the B-202 plane landed smoothly at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport . In order to stop the plane as soon as possible to evacuate passengers, the crew used emergency braking and braking as soon as the plane was grounded, and successfully stopped the B-202 plane at the contact entrance. As soon as the aircraft stopped, the unit cut off the main power switch, and then ordered the crew to open the hatch door, lower the working ladder (not enough time to wait for the gangway) to start evacuating passengers.

Because the working ladder is steep and simple, passengers can only climb back and leave the plane one by one, and there is only one working ladder. The evacuation efficiency can be imagined. When the 11th place was just preparing to leave the plane along the working ladder, the thick smoke in the cabin suddenly increased sharply and turned into an open flame in less than half a minute. The crew members and passengers who had not left the plane quickly became a mess. The originally orderly evacuation turned into an instinctive survival. Some people were exhausted and were smoked by thick smoke. Some people fell down while pushing. In the end, the B-202 aircraft was burned into the sea of fire and burned at the contact entrance. The fire burned for an hour in total before being completely extinguished by the fire brigade. 25 of the 69 people on board were killed (2 of whom died on the way to the hospital), and 34 were injured to varying degrees, accounting for 85.5% of the total number of people on board. Only 10 people who had left the plane were unscathed.

According to the medical report submitted by the Health Department of the Guangzhou Administration of Civil Aviation of China ("Air Rescue and Medical Investigation Report for an Air Miss Accident", the author Comrade Jing Wuchen visited a total of 19 surviving passengers, 2 surviving crew members, and some fire and medical rescue personnel involved in the rescue): After the aircraft was stopped, the crew evacuated passengers based on the organization and failed to break the porthole with fire axes and other tools as soon as possible to ventilate. Among the 25 victims, 19 of the 25 victims were concentrated at the entrance and exit doors at the front and rear ends of the left side of the aircraft, and eventually died of suffocation due to the inability to open the door or climb down the ladder. Two of them died on the way to the hospital because they did not undergo on-site emergency examinations after being rescued. The bodies of the other four victims were scattered throughout the cabin, which may be due to premature smoke inhalation caused by suffocation and death from coma and disability. In addition, due to the lack of sufficient protective equipment for first aid workers, three on-site emergency medical staff were sent to the hospital for treatment due to inhalation poisoning.

After the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the cause of the spontaneous combustion incident in Baiyun Airport in the 1980s was that a passenger was smoking in the cabin (at that time, China Civil Aviation and even the world civil aviation industry did not ban smoking. Not only did it not ban smoking, but it also smogs to passengers. A dark grid of smoke ash was set on each seat armrest of the Chinese civil aviation plane in the 1980s. Five small boxes of cigarettes were occasionally issued on the plane as snacks. When changing the boarding pass, the staff would also ask whether to smoke. In the early history of civil aviation, due to the weak safety awareness, most people even used the warning of seat belts as if they were not allowed to take the seat belt, let alone the smoking ban. Both airlines and passengers did not think that there was anything wrong with smoking on board. There were many people who were flying the plane while holding a cigarette roll in their mouths. After the completion, they were careless and failed to completely extinguish the cigarette butt and crushed it into the ashtray, causing the ignited cigarette butt to fall off the cabin ground. The floor of the Il-18B passenger plane does not have the common barrier devices of modern passenger planes, which caused cigarette butts to slide into the equipment compartment in the lower layer of the cabin, causing a dark fire. The cabin decoration materials with polystyrene and polyurethane as the main components on the aircraft led to an open flame, and eventually burned the B-202 passenger plane. B-202 failed to pinch the cigarette butt into the ashtray on the seat, resulting in a tragedy of 25 people
Because this first-class plane safety accident was caused by passengers smoking and the cigarette butt fell into the floor, the Civil Aviation Administration of China reminded passengers to extinguish the cigarette butts in time after smoking, eliminate safety hazards and avoid similar accidents. It was not until 1988 that China's Civil Aviation issued new regulations: all civil aircraft registered in China must be banned from smoking, and corresponding ban signs should be hung in obvious locations (the complete ban on smoking on flights around the world will not be officially implemented until 1996).
Once you can smoke on passenger planes, it was an important means for airlines to attract passengers

Now, civil aviation passenger plane cabins can be seen obvious smoking ban signs everywhere

st step away from the field - after taking off, enter the wind up, keep the runway heading up to 500ft feet, turn left 90 degrees and then enter the crosswind side - continue climbing/heading vertical runway, continue climbing to 1000ft (based on the airport altitude as the basis), 2 away from the airport Turn left and go to the downwind - at this time you should be 1000ft feet (300 meters) above the airport and maintain altitude (plus and minus 50ft), heading parallel to the runway and takeoff 180 degrees opposite. Here you start the landing inspection, retract the throttle to slow down, turn left 90 degrees and start to drop, pay attention to the height, and then enter the bottom-down stage, open the flap to takeoff position, vertically runway, adjust the speed, turn left 90 degrees, and enter the entry side--Flaps place the landing position, adjust the throttle, lower the height, aim at the runway, gradually approach, and when reaching one end of the runway, try to be as small as possible, pay attention to the angle of attack, prevent jumps, frequently and lightly press the brakes, keep the straight line and stop until they stop, and finally return to the apron.Details of B202 Il-18B passenger aircraft painted by the factory director drawn by the factory director1
