On April 21, the second World Industrial Design Conference, jointly sponsored by the China Industrial Design Association and the People's Government of Hangzhou Yuhang District, was held in Yuhang Liangzhu Mengqi Town. The theme of this conference was set as "Design • Ecology". The "Declaration on Design Poverty Alleviation" was issued for the first time, and it advocated that international organizations, governments, and global design industries cooperate to carry out larger-scale and deeper design poverty alleviation work, take elimination of all forms of poverty as a common task, form a virtuous cycle in the economic, social and environmental fields, effectively enhance industrial vitality and life value, promote prosperity and protect the earth, and contribute to the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
A number of major projects were signed at the opening ceremony, including the Hangzhou Collaborative Innovation Research Institute project, the global innovation network platform, Zhejiang Puyuan Small and Micro Enterprise Innovation Park Design Base, Design Open University, etc. It is worth mentioning that the Design Open University, jointly built by the Netherlands Eindhoven University of Technology , Zhejiang University , Southeast University , Jiangnan University, Jiangsu University, Nanjing University of Art, Hubei University of Technology, China University of Metrology, etc., settled in Mengqi Town, and cultivated top design talents across disciplines, cross-cultural and cross-fields.
In addition, this conference also held a TIA Design Award to commend units, individuals and achievements with outstanding contributions and influence in industries such as government, industry, academia, research, finance and business; and released fourteen excellent industrial achievements including WDO design trend release, NetEase Yanxuan Innovation Open Platform, Green Fashion Haitao Angel Dream (Fashion Show), etc. It is understood that the 2018 World Industrial Design Conference •Design Week will also be grandly staged in Mengqi Town from April 20 to 26.
