China Aviation News Network: According to Reuters , the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) hopes that U.S. telecom regulators will ensure that some 5G C-band delayed deployments for small operators.
FAA acting director Billinolen said the agency hopes the Federal Communications Commission (FCCh) enforces voluntary mitigation measures from 19 small telecom companies and other spectrum holders agreed earlier this year by Verizon. "If the U.S. government does not enact certain additional operational restrictions in the 5G C-band environment, aviation security will be compromised." The letter has been sent to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), and FCC Chairman Jessica Rosenworcel, NTIA, FAA and FCC did not comment immediately. Fears that 5G services may interfere with aircraft altimeters, which provide data on aircraft's ground-off altitude and are critical for severe weather landings, resulting in signal interruptions at some U.S. airports earlier this year. In June 2022, Verizon and ATT voluntarily agreed to postpone the use of some C-band 5G until July 2023 as airlines are working to revamp the aircraft to ensure they are not disturbed.
