The 22nd episode "The Underwater World of "Coral Dad"" will be aired today. To explore the wonderful world of the underwater with "Coral Dad" Chen Hong, see how he adheres to the "Million Coral Cultivation Plan" and allows marine ecological restoration to bear fruit in Hainan.

is rooted in Sanya research blank field
Beautiful and colorful undersea corals are known as the "tropical rainforest" under the sea. They are not only a strange dream in the eyes of divers, but also the home of many marine creatures for survival and an important foundation for maintaining the stability of the sea. As a major marine province, Hainan's ocean area under its jurisdiction accounts for two-thirds of China's total ocean area. There are large areas of coral reefs distributed in the offshore and Sansha Seas. However, due to changes in the marine environment and other reasons, coral reef degradation has become a serious problem that threatens marine ecology.

Chen Hong’s relationship with coral began in 1987, the year before Hainan was established. "I was assigned to Zhejiang after graduation that year. I fell in love with it when I came to Sanya in October, so I stayed firmly." Chen Hong joined the Hainan South China Sea Tropical Marine Biology Experimental Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. While carrying out pearl shell research, he gradually engaged in coral observation and cultivation experiments.

Sanya back then was just an ordinary seaside town with a small population and a tourism industry just started. Chen Hong said that the lush coral scene at that time left a deep impression on him. Research on corals was an emerging field in China at that time, and there were many unsolved mysteries. "At that time, people couldn't even understand why corals died, let alone plant corals." Chen Hong still remembered that it was a fantasy in China at that time, and foreign technology was just beginning. On this difficult road, Chen Hong walked through hardships.

sneaked into the seabed corals and created the Noah's Ark to create plants
Chen Hong established the Hainan South China Sea Tropical Ocean Research Institute in 2003 to conduct systematic research on corals. At that time, due to enemy sea creatures and diseases, the area of coral reefs in Hainan was greatly reduced.
"We need to figure out the causes of coral pathogenicity and death, the respective evolutionary laws of coral communities, and then gradually master large-scale coral reef restoration and protection technology." Chen Hong said that every step of implementation is extremely difficult.
In order to rescue and repair corals, it undertakes the "Sanya Coral Transplantation and Monitoring Program" project of the United Nations Development Program Global Environment Foundation, participates in the "National Ecological Survey of Coral Reefs and Seagrass" and "Swimming Biology and Plankton Survey of Sanya Coral Reef Reserve" and presides over key and major scientific research projects in Hainan Province... In view of the current situation of large-scale bleaching and death of corals in native areas, it systematically studies coral artificial breeding and transplantation technology.

to study corals, and you must dive to the seabed for scientific research. Chen Hong has many critical moments for this. The diving equipment is very heavy, but it has zero buoyancy in the water, so I can't climb ashore by myself. Once, Chen Hong was instantly washed away from his original direction when he encountered a sea current while planting corals. After finally getting ashore, he found that his body was cut by oysters. In his years of experience in his career, Chen Hong has encountered such thrilling moments more than once. He can get rid of danger every time and then start working again.

2021, after two years of technical research, Chen Hong established the first coral germplasm gene bank in the country, and has now collected more than 150 coral species. Break through the three academic problems of coral bleaching in the South China Sea, large-scale coral cultivation, and ecological restoration. Fill in many gaps in international coral research, and some of the results reached the world's leading level. Chen Hong has always had a dream of "million corals". He hopes to plant 1 million corals on the main islands and reefs of Hainan Island and build a colorful undersea garden. Speaking of the future, Chen Hong hopes that his descendants can still see what he saw when he first arrived in Sanya: corals flourish again, and "Sea Stone Flowers" can bloom all over the South China Sea.

The next episode will tell the story of Song Zengguang, the first takeaway rider who won the National May 1st Labor Medal. The harder you work, the luckier you will be. Life will never let everyone work hard. More exciting things, remember to continue to lock in the micro documentary "This Ten Years".
