When it comes to calligraphy, Wang Xizhi and Yan Zhenqing are two peaks that cannot be avoided. Wang Xizhi is "like a stunning geese, and like a wandering dragon". The lines reveal the demeanor of famous scholars in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, while Yan Zhenqing is full of the loyalty and integrity of scholars. The original copy of Wang Xizhi's first running script has not been passed down to the world. Yan Zhenqing's "Manuscripts for Nephew" has been preserved in the world for thousands of years, which shows how precious it is, and how lucky it is for us descendants.
Therefore, "Meditations of Nephews" is known as the "National Treasure Limited Exhibition" . The last appearance was at the special exhibition of the "Wonderful 100 National Treasures" of the Taipei Palace Museum in 2011. Overseas loan exhibitions are even rare, and the last overseas exhibition dates back to the exhibition at the National Gallery of Washington, USA in 1997.
In the history of Chinese calligraphy, Wang Xizhi's " Lanting Preface ", Yan Zhenqing's "Meditation of Nephew" and Su Dongpo's "Huangzhou Cold Food Poems" are respected as "the three major running scripts in the world". Yan Zhenqing was born in 709 AD and died in 784 AD. His courtesy name was Qingchen, and he was appointed as the founding Duke of Lu County. Later generations respectfully called him " Yan Lu Gong ". As a loyal minister and calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, his calligraphy works have the three values of cultural relics, documents and calligraphy art.
Yan Zhenqing was born in the Langya Yan family, who had a wealth of knowledge. He lost his father at the age of three, but he was humble and studious since childhood, and was proficient in calligraphy and poetry. He passed the imperial examination at the age of 26. Yan Zhenqing was a famous loyal and upright person in the officialdom, so he offended Yang Guozhong , which was at that time and was demoted to the prefect of Pingyuan.
Less than three years after being demoted, a "Anshi Rebellion" that almost ruined the Tang Dynasty broke out. In the face of this unprecedented catastrophe in the dynasty, the fate of many people has been rewritten. In order to quell the rebellion, the Yanshi family made great sacrifices. In order to cheer up Liu Zhengchen, a general of Pinglu County who revolted in the Yuyang Uprising, Yan Zhenqing sent his ten-year-old son to the front line as a hostage.
Yan Zhenqing's cousin - Changshan County (Zhengding, Hebei) Prefect Yan Gaoqing also joined the quelling of the rebellion. At that time, Yan Zhenqing was in Shandong Dezhou , and the contact between the two was entirely due to Yan Gaoqing's son Yan Jiming . He traveled between the smoke of gunpowder and served as a liaison officer.
Unfortunately later, the rebels besieged Changshan County. After six days of hard fighting, Yan Gaoqing was exhausted and the city was destroyed and he was captured. But he would rather die than surrender . The enemy threatened Yan Jiming's life. Yan Gaoqing cursed and was cruelly cut off his tongue by the rebels. Later, he cut off his hands and executed Lingchi, and Yan Jiming was also brutally killed. The Yan clan was brutally slaughtered, and more than 30 people were killed.

After the war, Yan Zhenqing, who was extremely mournful, sent someone to deal with the aftermath and searched for the corpses of his family, but only found one of Gao Qing's feet and Ji Ming's skull.
In grief and anger, Yan Zhenqing personally wrote a tribute for his nephew. This is the famous "Manuscript of Commemoration for Nephew" - written on September 3, 758.
Every word in the text is heart-wrenching, and every stroke is painful, making people unable to bear to read it. It reads "The thief ministers are not saved, and they are surrounded by a lonely city, their father traps his son and dies, and their nests are covered with eggs." restores the tragic scene of Yan Gaoqing's loyal and martyr who sacrificed his life for justice at that time. This sentence was repeatedly deleted, modified and smeared by Yan Zhenqing, which is enough to imagine his grief and anger.
