First edition: It is the "Yan'an version", written by Xian Xinghai in Yan'an in a simplified manner. At that time, there were only a few violin , and the rest were instruments such as erhu, sanxian, flute, guitar, harmonica . Most people could not recognize the five-line score, so they used the simple score.
Second Edition: It is a version of the "Soviet version" and Xian Xinghai's reorientation in the former Soviet Union. Some adjustments have been made in the main theme and voice parts.
The third edition: It is the "Shanghai Orchestra version", Li Huanzhi in 1987 was adapted from Xian Xinghai's "Soviet version".
Fourth Edition: It is the " Central Orchestra version". In 1975, Yan Liangkun and others re-orientated the version based on Xian Xinghai's Yan'an version. This version has the greatest influence and the widest spread. This version is familiar to everyone. This version uses the original manuscript from 1939, and the first, fourth, sixth and eight movements from the performance score of the Central Orchestra at the concert commemorating the 40th anniversary of Nie Er's death and the 30th anniversary of Xian Xinghai's death are collected here.
fifth edition: It is a piano accompaniment version. This version was compiled by Qu Wei and is mainly adapted for the convenience of performance.
In June 2019, " Yellow River Chorus " was selected as the "100 outstanding songs to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China" by the Central Propaganda Department.
