Jiangsu, abbreviated as "Su", is a provincial administrative region of China and its capital in Nanjing. It is named after the first words "Jiangning Prefecture" and "Suzhou Prefecture". Located in the center of the eastern coastal coast of mainland China, the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the Yellow Sea in the east, the Yellow Sea in the east, the Zhejiang and Shanghai in the southeast, the Anhui in the west, and the Shandong in the north, the Yangtze River and the Huai River in the north, and the Grand Canal in the east, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through it.
Jiangsu is one of the birthplaces of ancient Chinese civilization, ancient humans, Wuyue culture and Yangtze River culture. It has been one of the most developed provinces and regions in China since ancient times. Jiangsu has four major cultural heritages: Jianghuai, Jinling, Wu and Central Plains, with a total of 13 national historical and cultural cities.
Jiangsu governs the rivers and seas, controls the lakes, has a prosperous economy, developed education, and prosperous culture. It is known as the "land of mountains, rivers, rivers, fish and rice", and has geographically crosses the north and south, and has the characteristics of the south and the north. The terrain is mainly plains, with a land area of 103,200 square kilometers, accounting for 1.08% of the country. The per capita land area is the smallest among all provinces in the country, and it is one of the smaller provinces in China. Jiangsu is located in the Yangtze River Economic Belt and has 13 prefecture-level cities under its jurisdiction, all of which are among the top 100. It is the only province where all prefecture-level cities are among the top 100.
Jiangsu Province ranks first in the country in terms of comprehensive competitiveness of its provincial economy, and is one of the most active provinces in China. The Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration formed with Shanghai, Zhejiang and Anhui has become one of the six world-class urban agglomerations in the world.
In the country, Jiangsu has the highest number of higher education institutions in the country. In addition to Beijing's leading position, high-level colleges can compete with Shanghai, at least in terms of quantity, surpass Shanghai, and at least in terms of comprehensive strength of universities in the country, it can rank third in terms of comprehensive strength. There are 2 985 universities, 11 211 universities (second in China), and the number of double first-class universities surpasses Shanghai to rank second, which makes many provinces envious.
As of September 2021, Jiangsu Province has 167 general higher education institutions and 78 undergraduate colleges recognized by the Ministry of Education, including 50 public general undergraduate colleges, 26 private general undergraduate colleges, and 2 undergraduate Sino-foreign cooperative schools; 89 junior colleges, including 68 public colleges, 20 private colleges, and 1 junior college Sino-foreign cooperative school.
