Zhaoying Village, Xiazhuang Town, Xiangyun County, is a pilot village for funeral reform in Xiangyun County. Since the full implementation of cremation in 2017, Zhaoying Village has included the funeral reform system in the village rules and regulations, and strongly advocates changing customs. However, due to the deep-rooted traditional concepts, many The public still cannot accept cremation, making it difficult to advance funeral reform.
In July 2017, Gao Qianchang’s son died of cancer. In order to respond to the village group’s call and promote the village’s funeral reform, Gao Qianchang took the initiative to cremate his son’s body.
Gaoqian Changhu was the first person in Zhaoying Village to have his body cremated and conduct a simple funeral, which caused a great response in the village. Everyone realizes that the funeral reform not only protects the ecological environment, but also reduces the funeral burden. It is a social reform that breaks the millennium old customs and establishes a new trend. It is a good fact that benefits the country and the people and benefits future generations.
Zhaoying Village is a village in a dam area with a population of 3,101 and only a few percent of cultivated land per capita. The village committee tried its best to protect the red line of cultivated land, and the funeral reform became a breakthrough. When someone dies in a family in the village, the village cadres take turns to do the work.

For each cremation, the civil affairs subsidy is 2,000 yuan. If the deceased is not buried and stored, there will also be a land saving fee.
In the past year or so, the focus of Zhaoying Village’s funeral reform has been on switching from traditional burial to cremation. In 2019, Zhaoying Village will further deepen the renovation and solve the problem of "burial". It is planned to invest 800,000 yuan to build three village-level public welfare columbaria, which are expected to be able to store 600 pairs of ashes. They will be completed and put into use in October 2019.
