Research scholars have two opinions about the source.
1, From "Zitong" to "梓童"
Before the Song and Yuan Dynasties, according to ancient records, the queen would call herself "Zitong". " "Five Kinds of Pinghua" is a book similar to the vernacular written by famous folk artists in Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasty, combining official history and folklore to tell the history to the folks. The writing of "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" has also been greatly influenced by it. .

2, From "小童" to " Zitong"
Many scholars believe that the real origin of "Zitong" should start from "Xiaotong", from "Xiaotong" to "Zitong" and then to "Zitong".
There is a famous Confucian classic book in ancient times called "The Analects", in which there is a record: "The wife of a prince, the prince is called a lady, and the wife is called a child. The state is called the lady of the king, and the foreign nations are called widow Xiaojun. It is also called Mrs. Jun by foreigners.”
Explains that during the Warring States period, the wife of the monarch was already called or called himself "little boy" or "little monarch." we all know. The political form of my country's historical civilization has gradually changed from state-kingdom-empire.
In the Song and Yuan dynasties, the Neo-Confucianism of Cheng Zhu further penetrated into the people, especially when it was further promoted and used by the royal family and nobles. Everyone evaded the word "little", but they had to express it. Meaning, because "zi" also means "small", so "Xiaotong" gradually evolved into "zitong".
Later, power became more and more concentrated, and the ruler of the people became stronger, and the title of himself and the various titles of imperial power were further restricted. For example, the death of the emperor was called "Bengchang". The death of princes and princes is called "薨", the death of doctors is called "pawn", the death of scholars is called "Bulu", the death of concubines or princes is called "death", and the death of people is called "death." The title of the queen is also changing. In history, the noble one in the wood is Zi, and Zi is a symbol of having children in ancient times. The emperor's heirs are related to the country and are a vital part of the country. So gradually, "Zitong" began to become "Zitong" again. This is probably the origin of "zi" becoming "zi".
