Whampoa Military Academy is a famous military academy in modern history of our country. In 1924, with the help of the Chinese Communists and the Soviet Union, Sun Yat-sen established this school to cultivate military talents.
Whampoa Military Academy has trained a large number of revolutionary backbones, among which the number of students in the first phase of Huangpu have achieved the greatest influence. The well-known Marshal Xu Xiangqian, General Chen Geng, Du Yuming, Hu Zongnan and others all graduated from the first phase of the year. They will be senior generals who will command hundreds of thousands of troops to fight in the future.
Among the first-year students of Huangpu, although Li Mo'an's fame and ability of cannot be compared with Chen Geng and others, he is also a capable person and was once highly valued by Chiang Kai-shek . Among the first-class students of Huangpu, there is a saying that " has has He Zhonghan , and Wu has Hu Zongnan ". Li Mo'an is very confident and added a sentence "Li Mo'an can be literary and martial."
At the beginning of the establishment of the Whampoa Military Academy, Premier Zhou served as the director of the political department of the military academy and had a deep understanding of Li Mo'an, a student. Although Li Mo'an joined the first phase of Huangpu late, he performed very well in both military training and political and ideological understanding, and was highly appreciated by Premier Zhou.
Premier Zhou intends to develop Li Mo'an into a party member and said to Chen Geng: Look at how motivated the young fellow Li Mo'an is, and pay more attention to outstanding students like him and develop them to join the party. In 1925, after Li Mo'an joined the Communist Party, although he was active, he would do things that were not serious. For example, because he was in love, he often asked for leave at meetings and did not come, which caused criticism from many classmates. After the Zhongshan ship incident, Chiang Kai-shek asked the Communists in the First Army to either withdraw from the Kuomintang and the First Army or withdraw from the Communist Party. Under heavy pressure, Li Mo'an retreated because the Communists often emphasized bloodshed and sacrificed. Li Mo'an was not prepared, and he wanted to shine his ancestors even more.
In the end, 39 people in the First Army withdrew from the Communist Party, among which Li Mo'an was the first to quit the party. Premier Zhou learned that Li Mo'an had withdrew from the party in and was very disappointed with him. He angrily scolded: Li Mo'an, you are the first Huangpu students to join the Communist Party and the first to withdraw from the Communist Party. You are the one who starts the good news, and you are the one who does bad things. I am so disappointed.
Li Mo'an's ability is still good. He did not suffer much loss in several battles with Red Army . In addition, he was a student of Huangpu, and Chiang Kai-shek trusted him very much. During the full-scale war of resistance, Li Mo'an was already the commander of the 14th Army. During the battle of Xinzhong, he cooperated closely with the Eighth Route Army and fought fiercely with the Japanese army. After more than 20 days of fighting, he shot and killed and injured 36,000 enemies, achieved a great victory in the war of resistance and defeated the Japanese army's agility.
Xinzhong Battle is a shining point in Li Mo'an's military career. He joined forces with the Communist Party to fight against Japan, actively cooperated with the Eighth Route Army, and the two sides cooperated tacitly to promote such a great victory in the Xinzhong Battle.
During the War of Liberation, Chiang Kai-shek asked Li Mo'an to be responsible for the war in Suzhong. This time he met our army's "God of War" Suyu , and Suzhong's seven battles and seven victory made Li Mo'an lose his temper. After that, Chiang Kai-shek abandoned Li Mo'an, and then changed many senior generals like a quick look, all of whom were defeated by Su Yu one by one.
1949, seeing that the failure of the Kuomintang was inevitable, Li Mo'an followed Cheng Qian and organized a peaceful uprising in Hunan, and withdrew from the military, living in Hong Kong, Argentina, the United States and other places.
Although Li Mo'an is abroad, he has always been concerned about the development of the country and is waiting for a suitable opportunity to return to China. In January 1990, Nie Rongzhen made a conversation with overseas Huangpu students during the Spring Festival, calling for "the motherland has not been unified yet, and classmates still need to work hard!"
Nie Rongzhen's speech aroused a strong reaction from overseas and Taiwan Huangpu students. In June of the same year, Li Mo'an returned to the mainland with his wife's ashes for burial. After hearing the news, Nie Rongzhen, Xu Xiangqian and others from Huangpu each presented wreaths and entrusted a special person to express their condolences.
After learning that Li Mo'an decided to settle in Beijing, on September 12, 1990, Nie Rongzhen met him while he was sick.Since the separation of the Whampoa Military Academy, we have not met again for more than 60 years. The two talked about the past and reviewed the relationship between teachers and students.
Speaking of the past during the Huangpu period, Nie Rongzhen asked, "How many students in the first class of Huangpu in mainland China are there now?" Li Mo'an thought for a while and said, "There are still 15 more people."
Learning that only 15 students in Huangpu First Class were left, Nie Rongzhen showed a hint of regret on his face and murmured to himself: It’s a pity that Chen Geng and Zuo Quan are gone!
Not long after this meeting with Nie Rongzhen, Li Mo'an emphasized at a symposium on Taiwan's issue: being safe and not protecting oneself, and division will lead to destruction. Taiwan's way out lies in achieving the peaceful reunification of the motherland, which is the common aspiration of all Chinese people.
In his later years, Nie Rongzhen was very concerned about the issue of peaceful reunification and did a lot of work with Huangpu students on this matter. He hoped that they would do their part and contribute to cross-strait peace.
Li Mo'an was the vice president of Whampoa Military Academy Alumni Association, in accordance with Nie Rongzhen's instructions, he called on Taiwan compatriots to return to the motherland and achieve national reunification and rejuvenation as soon as possible.
In May 1992, Nie Rongzhen passed away. Li Mo'an went to the scene to pay his respects that day, and sent the teacher for the last journey with a deep feeling.
