In September 1947, a shocking news came that North China , Northwest and Northeast our underground party leader Wang Shijian was arrested and rebelled and confessed everything to the enemy.
includes the names of all intelligence organizations, underground staff and leaders in North China, Northwest and Northeast China, as well as the locations of the five underground radio stations, and the specific addresses of radio operators, translators, and traffic officers.
As a result, the intelligence front caused a storm, and a large search followed, and a bloody storm started.
Our party’s 44 underground workers lurking inside the enemy were arrested and imprisoned, and more than 120 people were implicated and arrested.
The most terrifying thing is that with Wang Shijian's arrest, our party's red agent hiding beside the northwest king Hu Zongnan was also completely exposed. At Wang Shijian's residence, the Kuomintang spies searched all the letters they had interacted with over the years.
Let’s talk about it again. Since Wang Shijian chose to rebel, there is no need to leave any room. Naturally, he will do everything and explain what he knows without reservation. In this case, Xiong Xianghui's identity as an underground party must be exposed.
Therefore, Xiong Xianghui was prepared for the worst, destroyed all confidential documents, and waited for the enemy to come to arrest him.
Xionghui
Xionghui, although Xiong Xianghui was in the United States at that time, the Kuomintang agents were omnipresent and had great magical powers, so it was easy to arrest him. But what is strange is that time passed day by day, but the spies were indifferent and did not take any action against Xiong Xianghui. What makes people even more confused is that Hu Zongnan continues to send money to Xiong Xianghui, who is far away from the ocean, for fear that he will not have enough money to spend.
Finally, Xiong Xianghui spent two years safely, studied for a master's degree in political economy at the Western Reserve University in the United States, and received a master's degree in social sciences in September 1948.
In November 1949, Xiong Xianghui returned to China safely and triumphantly, and was warmly welcomed in Zhongnanhai .
This made Xiong Xianghui very puzzled. He and Wang Shijian were so close, and there were so many letters to prove it. Even if Wang Shijian showed mercy and did not tell Xiong Xianghui's identity, according to the Kuomintang's usual behavior of "willing to kill a thousand people by mistake, never letting go of one person". Xiong Xianghui would not be able to escape unscathed.
So, what is the answer?
To answer this question, two people must be introduced: Wang Shijian and Xiong Xianghui.
Wang Shijian's original name is Zhao Yaobin and was born in Shandong in 1911. He was a progressive young man back then. He participated in the revolution at the age of 15 and regarded Marxism-Leninism as his belief.
In 1932, Wang Shijian joined the Communist Party and became the party secretary of the Hebei Provincial Anti-Imperialist Alliance. He was only 21 years old this year.
On April 22, 1933, Wang Shijian's identity was exposed by the Kuomintang spies in mid-May for publicly commemorating Comrade Li Dazhao, one of the founders of our party who was killed by Zhang Zuolin .
In prison, the enemy saw that he was a young man and thought he would confess easily. But unexpectedly, the enemy tortured him, knocked him unconscious and then woke him up with cold water. However, Wang Shijian always gritted his teeth and answered the enemy in three words: I don’t know!
Wang Shijian was not only not intimidated, but was energetic and optimistic, treating prison as a battlefield for fighting against the Kuomintang and a stage for propaganda of Marxism-Leninism.
In the prison, Wang Shijian organized the compilation of progressive books and magazines such as "The Voice of Prison", which became the spiritual food to inspire everyone to fight against the enemy.
This time, the Kuomintang spies hated him even more, and on May 18, 1935, he was escorted to Nanjing for trial. However, at the trial, the traitor who accused Wang Shijian might be guilty, but he lost the chain, was incoherent in the court and had lots of loopholes.
Despite this, the Kuomintang’s trial of him was originally a formality, and Wang Shijian was eventually sentenced to 8 years in prison.
After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang and the Communist Party formed a united front, and many comrades detained by the Kuomintang were released, and Wang Shijian also regained his freedom.
The tested Wang Shijian naturally gained the high trust of the party organization. In 1941, he was arranged to go to Xi'an to work in intelligence, serving as the center of Xi'an intelligence outlets, responsible for the contacts of comrades at various liaison points, and responsible for assisting in collecting and transmitting intelligence.
Xiong Xianghui was Wang Shijian's colleague or offline at that time. Xiong Xianghui, together with Shen Jian and Chen Zhongjing, was called the "Three Heroes of Longtan" on the intelligence front of our party at that time.
They were all lurking in the army of Chiang Kai-shek, and handed over the confidential information of Chiang’s army to Wang Shijian and then passed it to Yan'an.
Not only that, Xi'an's intelligence network can radiate to other parts of the country. It is no exaggeration to say that because of Wang Shijian and everyone's efforts, there is no secret to all the work of the Kuomintang in Xi'an.
Chiang Kai-shek's combat plan, troop deployment, and personnel appointments and removals have become transparent in Yan'an's view. The Kuomintang and the Communist Party lost before they took action.
For example, in 1947, Hu Zongnan was ordered to attack Yan'an. In order to achieve the effect of a sudden attack, the military operation was absolutely confidential. His division commanders only received the notice 5 hours before the start of the operation.
But Hu Zongnan didn't know that Yan'an had already learned all the details of his military operations. Because of this, Chairman Mao knew himself and his enemy, strategized and chatted freely, and led everyone to calmly deal with the enemy on Loess Plateau , turning the "Northwest King" Hu Zongnan into a Northwest Monkey, playing around at will!
Hu Zongnan commanded the army to command in northern Shaanxi. Not only did he not even see the shadow of our Party Central Committee, but he was eaten by Peng Dehuai.
Li Kenong
As the highest person in charge of the Party Central Committee's intelligence front, Li Kenong admires this up-and-coming artist in intelligence work very much and recognizes his work ability very much, saying that he is a "fairy young man".
If Wang Shijian is a young man, Xiong Xianghui is young and promising.
Xiong Xianghui is also from Shandong. He was born in 1919 and is 8 years younger than Wang Shijian. He joined the party at the age of 17, started to enter the hidden front at the age of 18 (1937), and came to Hu Zongnan's troops for 10 years.
Xionghui is smart and capable, "loyal", so he was appreciated by Hu Zongnan and trained as a confidant. From 1939, he was appointed as his attendant adjutant and confidential secretary until May 1947. From then on, Hu Zongnan's confidential texts and messages were clearly visible to our party.
What Hu Zongnan did not expect most was that in 1943, Hu Zongnan's military plan to raid northern Shaanxi was learned in advance by our party, and the conspiracy went bankrupt. Therefore, Mao Zedong praised Xiong Xianghui's special contributions and said that he could stand up to several divisions by himself.
How did Wang Shijian be arrested later?
In 1947, the Kuomintang-Republic talks broke down, and Chiang Kai-shek showed his evil spirit and planned to go to Beiping to supervise the battle and launch an attack on the liberated areas.
At the critical moment, he received information that the Kuomintang general and commander of the 11th War Zone, Sun Lianzhong, decided to betray him and plan to rebel against Chiang.
This shocked Chiang Kai-shek and immediately ordered Gu Zhengwen to strictly investigate the inner demons and see who was Sun Lianzhong's backstage.
Gu Zhengwen is an intelligence genius and a traitor to our party. He once served as captain of the reconnaissance brigade of Lin Biao's 115th Division. Later, he was arrested while performing a mission and betrayed the revolution.
Dai Li appreciates this intelligence genius very much. He once said in his diary: "Gu Tongzhen (Gu Zhengwen used his name) has read a lot, and his talent is very useful."
Mao Renfeng also attaches great importance to Gu Zhengwen. After Dai Li died in a plane crash, he was appointed as the head of the North China region of the Military Control Commission.
received Chiang Kai-shek's order, and Gu Zhengwen did not dare to neglect and personally took the initiative to investigate. It doesn't matter if this investigation was made, and some of our party's intelligence networks were found. The reason why Sun Lianzhong decided to oppose Chiang was because Yu Xinqing, the subordinate of Feng Yuxiang, did his job. But Yu Xinqing also has close ties with our party, and the channel for contact with our party’s senior management is our party’s Beiping Underground Radio.
The secret service found Yu Xinqing through strict surveillance of Sun Lianzhong.
In order to find out Yu Xinqing's contacts, the Kuomintang secret service agency spared no expense and even imported the world's most advanced radio detection equipment from the United States at that time.
was repeatedly tested and finally reduced the location of the radio station in Peking to several key areas. Finally, after nearly half a month of investigation, the target was set at the specific target - No. 24, Jingzhao East Public Street, Jiaodaokou.
But I, the underground party in Peking, was unaware of this and was still working step by step. Early that morning, just dawn, my underground party member was working selflessly, and the door of the house was suddenly kicked open. Gu Zhengwen of the Kuomintang Secret Service led dozens of spies into the house and controlled all the underground party members in the house with lightning speed - Director and radio operator Li Zhengxuan, radio operator Meng Liangyu, translator Zhang Houpei (Li's wife) and Li Yuping (Meng's wife).
The spies from the Kuomintang Secret Service immediately interrogated our underground party members. Most of the comrades could withstand the test and would rather die than surrender and keep the secrets of the party.
And Li Zhengxuan is a corrupt person who can't stand the torture of the enemy, so he told all the secrets he knew about our party.
Li Zhengxuan is not only the head of the Ministry of Education, but also the head of our underground party. He has all the members of the underground party in Beijing and related information. Li Zhengxuan confessed that these comrades were affected and were soon arrested.
, and Wang Shijian's exposure should be before Li Zhengxuan's rebellion.
After Li Zhengxuan was arrested, his lover Zhang Houpei was not caught, and Gu Zhengwen deliberately set up a trap and set off a long line to catch big fish. Zhang Houpei was young and innocent, so he quickly contacted Wang Shijian and asked him to prepare early. Wang Shijian was exposed.
On September 29, Wang Shijian was arrested.
Because Wang Shijian's identity is too important, Confidential Bureau attaches great importance to it. They decided to pry open his mouth at any cost and destroy all the underground intelligence network of our party.
result, this warrior who was very strong in the enemy prison when he was young, but after he reached middle age, he became a coward, failed to withstand the test, and became a shameful traitor.
His rebellion caused our party's hidden front to suffer a catastrophe. In this incident, more than 40 intelligence workers were arrested and imprisoned, and more than 140 people were implicated. Several intelligence officers were directly killed by the Kuomintang reactionaries, including the famous "Five Martyrs of Yuhuatai" Xie Shiyan , Ding Xingzhi , Zhu Jianguo, Zhao Liangzhang , Shi Chun .
But since that's the case, why is Xiong Xianghui safe?
Some people say that it was Wang Shijian who deliberately protected Xiong Xianghui, because not only Xiong Xianghui, but also the core personnel in the entire Xi'an intelligence network, such as Chen Zhongjing and Shen Jian, were not exposed.
Some people even say that our party does not regard Wang Shijian as a traitor because of this.
Some people also said that when our party agent Wang Li Kenong was dying, he also said Wang Shijian's name to the people around him and expressed his nostalgia for him.
In fact, this statement is untenable and cannot stand scrutiny at all.
Because Wang Shijian once betrayed the key figure of our party’s hidden front in Xi’an, Dai Zhongrong, deputy director of Hu Zongnan’s confidential office.
Of course, someone explained that when Wang Shijian explained, he specifically stated: "This person is not a Communist Party, I bought him, and he didn't know that I am a Communist."
In this way, Dai Zhongrong's crime will be greatly reduced, otherwise the death penalty will be undoubtedly.
And Wang Shijian's explanation of Xiong Xianghui, Chen Zhongjing and Shen Jian was the same. He said that these three people were used by themselves and were not underground workers of our party. "Such contradictory measures make it impossible to find out whether Wang Shijian is really betrayal. He betrays comrades, but he protects comrades."
The problem is that after Xiong Xianghui, Chen Zhongjing and Shen Jian arrived in the United States, they could no longer obtain Hu Zongnan's intelligence.
After Dai Zhongrong was arrested, he could no longer play a role. Our party’s intelligence network was destroyed. So, Wang Shijian must have confessed to Xiong Xianghui and others.
If that is the case, why didn’t Hu Zongnan hold Xiong Xianghui and others accountable and let them study and live freely in the United States?
The contradiction is that if Wang Shijian is loyal to the party and deliberately keeps his hands, the first thing he should protect is Dai Zhongrong because he is worth more.
Relatively speaking, Xiong Xianghui and others have arrived in the United States and it is impossible to obtain valuable information anymore. Therefore, the statement that Wang Shijian is loyal to the Communist Party and protects Xiong Xianghui is untenable.
Hu Zongnan
What is the truth? The spy leader of the Kuomintang Military Affairs Bureau Shen Zui gave the answer in his memoir "Insider of the Military Affairs Bureau".
Shen Zui said that Wang Shijian confessed to Xiong Xianghui that year, but Hu Zongnan tried his best to prevent the Secret Service from attacking Xiong Xianghui. His purpose in doing this is not to sympathize with the Communist Party, but to protect himself.
Just imagine, Xiong Xianghui worked with Hu Zongnan for ten years and was cultivated by Hu Yishou. Hu Zongnan trusted Xiong Xianghui and others so much, causing huge losses to the Kuomintang, and sent them to the United States for further study; this made Chiang Kai-shek know that even if he didn't say that he was a communist, he would say that he was a fool and had no eyes.
Once this happens, even if Chiang Kai-shek doesn't treat Hu Zongnan, his future will be bleak, his political life will basically end, and he will no longer be reused.
Therefore, Hu Zongnan could only use all his energy to suppress this matter.
Since that's the case, why didn't Hu Zongnan protect his confidential secretary and underground member Dai Zhongrong, and let the Secret Service take him away? Moreover, this person has been lurking around Hu Zongnan for ten years.
This is not difficult to explain. Hu Zongnan has a Communist intelligence officer under his command, which is reasonable. Who can do without sages? If Xiong Xianghui and the other three were exposed, wouldn’t Hu Zongnan’s office be the base of the Communist Party? It is not impossible for Hu Zongnan to be thrown into prison by then.
Although the Secret Service was loyal to Chiang Kai-shek, Mao Renfeng was from Zhejiang and was a fellow villager with Hu Zongnan. It was not a bad thing for Mao Renfeng to protect Hu Zongnan.
Mao Renfeng
So, Mao Renfeng dared to deceive Chiang Kai-shek and concealed Xiong Xianghui's case, which prevented Hu Zongnan from getting into danger.
It is not difficult to see from this that our party’s intelligence personnel are indeed excellent. The Kuomintang’s intelligence work is really bad. The reason is very simple. They devoted all their energy to internal strife.
