15. My mother is good at making decisions at critical moments (1)
In my life, the most impressive thing and most exciting thing is to participate in the military cadre school, put on the uniform of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, and 20 years of hot life in the melting pot of the army's revolution, leaving me with a beautiful memory that will never be erased.
In October 1950, after the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea began, the Party Central Committee and the State Council issued two calls to mobilize young people with aspirations to participate in military cadre schools. In May 1951, Qixian Middle School received instructions from its superiors to hold a mobilization meeting throughout the school and formally organized students to register for the army. At first, my parents didn’t agree to my registration, one because I was too young, and the other was that the Korean War was in full swing, afraid of danger. When the number of applicants in the whole school reached more than 300, my father's thoughts also changed, so I was asked to sign up, but because I was less than 1.5 meters tall and weighed less than 90 kilograms.
But he didn't expect that on the second day after I signed up, I bit my finger and wrote a bloody letter, firmly asking for approval from my superiors. When my father found out, he thought I was ignorant and would not be able to stand it if I really got to the army. Later I told my mother that I was about to graduate from junior high school, and there was no high school in , Qixian , can you afford to support me in high school in Taiyuan? As I can’t afford it, can I find a job as young as I am?
My mother thought about it and still felt that letting me go to the army to exercise would be of good for my family. After my mother made up her mind, she persuaded her father to agree to let me leave.
On the morning of June 30, my father expressed his opinion at the school-wide conference: I will resolutely send my children to the army and serve the country. It has been praised by all teachers and students in the school. On July 1, 1951, when commemorating the 30th birthday of the Party, the school used red paper to publish the honor list for approving 41 students to participate in the military cadre school, including my name. I was so excited that I couldn't close my eyes all night. The next day, I felt very uncomfortable when I thought about parting with my classmates who were about to spend time with me. I want to take pictures with my classmates as a souvenir! But taking photos requires money, and I know my father is short of money and it is difficult to speak. I told my mother about my thoughts, but my father not only agreed to take photos at noon that day, but he also wanted to take photos with us.
That's it. I took a historically significant commemorative photo of the military's departure with my 21 classmates from Nanshe Primary School and then went to Qizhong. My father sat in the middle of his classmate.
After I joined the army, I forgot about taking photos because of my busy schedule. It was not until 1978 that my mother gave it to me when I was working in Qizhong. At the 60th anniversary party of Nanshe classmates in August 2008, this photo became a historical treasure that everyone noticed and was published in the " Sanjin Metropolis Daily " on June 10, 2009.
On July 4, 1951, when I was about to join the army and leave home, my mother kept sending me to the gate of Zhongzhong Qi. She repeatedly told me that after arriving in the army, I must study diligently, work seriously, be honest and obedient, and be honest and upright. We set out from the school, everyone wore red flowers on their chests, and all the teachers and students in the school crossed the road to see off. County Party Secretary Liu Yinlong and many other leaders kept sending us on the train. Before the train started, my father said, remember your mother's words, work hard in the army, and bring more glory to our family and Qixian Middle School.
