Welcome to the 3172nd issue of Shiyuan History Column. Before September 1971, Huang Yongsheng, the founding general of the People's Republic of China, had a very high status in the military. He served as chief of general staff, leader of the Military Commission's working group and other core military positions. He was also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and ranked among deputy state-level cadres. However, due to the former commander-in-chief of the four fields, a group of once-proud generals were dismissed one after another. Huang Yongsheng was one of them and was isolated and reviewed by the organization. The ups and downs of life are unpredictable.
"Huang Wu Qiu Li" was only formally convicted of the crime at the Supreme People's Court Special Court in 1981. Huang Yongsheng was sentenced to 18 years in prison, the longest sentence. Of course, firstly, it is out of recognition of their past military exploits, and secondly, these people are all over 60 years old, so after 1981, "Huang Wu Qiu Li" did not really serve his sentence in prison, but was all released on medical parole. The treatment of is . Huang Yongsheng lives in Qingdao , and Wu Faxian lives in Jinan. In their later years, they all have certain personal freedoms and their lives are well protected.
But this does not mean that Huang Yongsheng has never spent a day in jail. In fact, Huang Wu, Qiu Li and others have all experienced 10 years of isolation review, which is actually equivalent to imprisonment. In the early days of the incident, there were a large number of issues that required investigation and interrogation, but Huang Yongsheng remained silent or avoided his substantive issues most of the time, and did not take the initiative to explain to the organization, which disappointed Chairman Mao. One day, Huang Yongsheng suddenly went out of his way and wrote a personal letter to the chairman. But when the great man read the letter, he felt a little dumbfounded. After pondered, the chairman gave corresponding instructions. What happened?
It turns out that Huang Yongsheng didn’t figure it out or his ideological awareness improved. He still didn’t truthfully confess his crime in the letter. The main purpose of 's letter was to report to the chairman that the food and living conditions in the cell were too poor and that he could not adapt to them, and hoped that they could be improved. It is hard to imagine that a military cadre who has made serious mistakes would actually make such a request during the isolation review period, or write a letter to the supreme leader. Huang Yongsheng's thinking is indeed very strange. If we want to say the reason, it can only be that he is used to pampering and loves food. During the Yan'an Mass Production Movement during the Anti-Japanese War, he presided over the opening of a restaurant and had considerable research on cooking skills. At this time, he may really not be able to bear the hardships in prison, especially the meals with light soup and water.
Although Chairman Mao did not see Huang Yongsheng's attitude in explaining the problem, he still approved Huang Yongsheng's request: he was qualified to eat well and should eat well. This is undoubtedly the chairman's affirmation of Huang Yongsheng's past military exploits. Whether merit or demerit is merit or demerit, the chairman has his own scale in his heart. Huang Yongsheng was also the Chairman's direct favorite. Even the three words "Huang Yongsheng" were the names that Chairman Mao changed for him when he was in the Red Army . In the late period of the Liberation War, Huang Yongsheng became the commander of the Corps and was a representative figure of the four wild armies. In 1955, he became the founding general of the People's Republic of China at the corps level. This kind of qualifications and achievements cannot be erased.
After Chairman Mao’s instructions, the quality of Huang Yongsheng’s meals improved significantly, from the original food standard of 8 cents per day to the level of meat every day and milk every week. Thanks to Huang Yongsheng's letter, the detention conditions of the four "Huang Wu Qiu Li" have been significantly improved. There is even hot water and a toilet in the room, which is much more comfortable than before. It can be seen that the central leadership still gave necessary care to these people who made contributions during the war years.
Huang Yongsheng spent his later years in Qingdao. He once said to his son with emotion: Dogs are the most loyal and will always be loyal to their owners. Remember, my father is a dog. There is something in Huang Yongsheng's words. He always believed that he was loyal to the commander-in-chief and Chairman Mao. But his so-called loyalty is not based on party spirit and principles, and is ultimately problematic. In April 1983, Huang Yongsheng died of liver cancer. This disease is largely related to depression. It can be seen that in the heart of this admiral, he still buried a lot of things in his later years and did not open up to others.
