On October 1, 1966, Chairman Mao waved to the people on the Tiananmen Gate Tower with a thrill of momentum. At 10 o'clock in the morning, Chairman Mao attended the celebration of the 17th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China held in Tiananmen , and met with more than 1.5 million Red Guards and Revolutionary Teachers and Students from Beijing and from all over the country. More than 3,000 representatives of workers, peasants and soldiers, ethnic minority representatives and Red Guards climbed the Tiananmen Gate Tower in batches for Chairman Mao’s inspection. At 12 noon, Chairman Mao met with the injured representatives of the 3211 drilling team of Daqing Oilfield. The entire event lasted for more than 6 hours. This is the fourth time that Chairman Mao has met with Red Guards and Revolutionary Teachers and Students from Beijing and from all over the country. At the end of the conference, Chairman Mao walked down the Tiananmen Gate Tower, passed through Jinshui Bridge , and met the masses. In the evening, Chairman Mao went to , Tiananmen Square, and sat on the ground, having fun with the masses, and then climbed to the Tiananmen Square Tower to watch the fireworks. On the city wall, Chairman Mao talked with Hill, chairman of the Australian Communist Party ( Marxism-Leninister ) and said: You should go to the university to have a look. There are leftists, rightists, and centrists in universities. The left and right are both minority, and the most common are centrists. We have taken care of many intellectuals from the old society. They look down on workers and peasants, and those who are from workers and peasants. We still have to use them. If we don’t use them, our newspapers will not be released and the radio will not be broadcasted. There are also many people in the literary and artistic circles. It takes a long time to change all of them. Chairman Mao pointed to the students who were parading in the square and said: Imperialism and revisionism are afraid of these students, and some of our cadres are also afraid of them. Don't think our environment is so good. Some of our cadres do not want to revolution anymore, including members of the Central Committee, members of the Politburo, and provincial party committee secretary, prefectural party secretary, and county party secretary. They just fear that they would mobilize the army to deal with these students. The People's Liberation Army cannot be mobilized, so they mobilized workers and farmers to oppose the students. On the city tower, Chairman Mao also told Li Zongren: The CPPCC still wants it, democratic parties still want it.
