Lien Desheng

It turned out that in April 1931, Lien Desheng suddenly left Shanghai, where he had been working and living for more than 20 years. Not long after, he sent back a letter saying that he had gone elsewhere and asked his family not to leave. Worry.

Since then, Lien Desheng seemed to have disappeared from the world, and no one knew his whereabouts.

Chen Sanfa was living a hard life with three children while searching for her husband. There was no news about him for decades.

In the end, old man Chen Sanfa passed away forever with regret.

Where did Lien Desheng go? What's the story behind him? This series of questions has troubled two generations of the Lian family for decades.

01

Lian Desheng and Chen Sanfa have a grandson named Lian Guangrong.

Ever since Lian Guangrong could remember, he had often heard his grandma talk about his grandfather. In fact, his grandma didn’t know what kind of job his grandpa did. She only knew that his hometown was Shangyu, Zhejiang, and he worked as a conductor at the Shanghai Yingshang Tram Company and participated in After the May 30th strike, he went to the Soviet Union and was an underground member of the Chinese Communist Party.

In that era, information was limited. It was really difficult to find a person who had been missing for decades in the vast sea of people with just this little information.

In those years, in order to fulfill grandma’s last wish before her death, Lian Guangrong and his father Lian Xinbao frequently wrote letters to relevant state agencies, asking for help in locating Lian Desheng’s whereabouts. The replies they received were “No such person found.”

In 1997, Lian Xinbao also passed away. Lian Guangrong, who once leaned beside his grandma and listened to stories, had spent most of his life, but he never gave up searching for his grandfather's whereabouts.

In 2008, nearly 40 years after his grandmother passed away, Lian Guangrong retired. He learned to surf the Internet while he was idle at home.

At that time, computers were a new thing. Lian Guangrong discovered that the Internet was truly all-encompassing and omnipotent, and he became fascinated.

What he didn’t expect was that it was the magical Internet that allowed Lian Guangrong to find news about his grandfather who had been missing for more than 70 years.

Lian Guangrong remembered clearly that on July 27 of that year, he suddenly had an idea and quickly asked his wife to type in the words "Lian Desheng" in the search engine.

Unexpectedly, a message related to "Lian Desheng" actually appeared on the computer interface.

"Lien Desheng" appears in a historical documentary novel called "The Almighty Guard". In the 14th chapter of this novel, Lien Desheng's name is listed. The book also introduces that this Lien Desheng He is a conductor at Shanghai Yingshuang Bus Company.

Lien Desheng, conductor!

Lian Guangrong and his wife could hardly believe their eyes. Isn’t this exactly what grandma said when she was still alive!

Since then, Lian Guangrong and his wife began to search the Internet for the history of the CCP’s early secret work.

At this time, they learned that after the failure of the Great Revolution in 1927, our party realized the importance of intelligence agencies. Therefore, Premier Zhou changed his name to Wu Hao and established the Communist Party's secret intelligence organization "Special Section of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China" in Shanghai.

Special Section is directly led by Premier Zhou. It is divided into three departments. The first section is responsible for setting up the venue and rescuing arrested comrades. The section chief is Hong Yangsheng; the second section is responsible for collecting intelligence and establishing an intelligence network. The section chief is Chen Geng; the third section is responsible for To punish traitors and spies, the section chief is Gu Shunzhang.

Lian Guangrong had a strong feeling that his grandfather, Lian Desheng, who was an underground party member, was probably a member of Special Branch and had close relationships with Premier Zhou, Chen Geng and others.

So, next, Lian Guangrong and his wife found an article "Wu Hao's Sword" on the Internet that specifically introduced "Special Science". The author of the

article is Wang Tiequn, a and professor at Hebei University, who has done extensive research on the CCP’s early intelligence work.

In this article, Professor Wang clearly stated that among the members of the Special Branch, there was an underground party member named Lien Desheng!

Lian Guangrong felt as if he had found a treasure after seeing it. He was so excited that he wrote a letter to Professor Wang Tiequn asking about Lien Desheng.

A month later, Professor Wang’s reply came slowly. Unfortunately, he didn’t have much information about Lien Desheng.

Professor Wang suggested that Lian Guangrong and his wife read the two books "Zhou Enlai, Commander of the Hidden Front" and "General Chen Geng" written by Mu Xin.

Mu Xin is a famous journalist and writer. During the Anti-Japanese War, he co-founded the Anti-Japanese War Daily and served as the director of the Communications and Interview Department. Premier Zhou once praised his reports for playing a good role in shattering the Kuomintang's rumors that the Eighth Route Army was loitering but not attacking.

Mu Xin and General Chen Geng are familiar with each other. The two have had a lot of contact. Mu Xin is also familiar with the work of Central Special Branch during his time in Shanghai.

After Lien Guangrong and his wife carefully read "Zhou Enlai, Commander of the Hidden Front", they were surprised to find that the Lien Desheng who appeared in the book was from Shangyu, Zhejiang!

Now, the couple is basically certain that Lien Desheng of the Central Special Branch is their "underground party" grandfather who has been missing for 78 years!

After consulting a large amount of historical information, Lian Guangrong finally figured out the basic situation of his grandfather before he left home.

Lien Desheng was born in 1893. His father died young and his family was poor. When he was more than 10 years old, he fled to Shanghai with his mother, living a life without enough food and clothing.

Before the age of 20, Lien Desheng worked as an apprentice in a small shop for several years, and later joined the Shanghai Yingshang Tram Company as a conductor.

Lien Desheng has a bold personality and is willing to help others, so he is very respected by the workers. Later, he married Chen Sanfa and gave birth to two sons and a daughter.

In 1925, 32-year-old Lien Desheng joined the Communist Party of China and engaged in underground work. It was from this time that Lien Desheng went home less and less.

In this year, the May 30th Movement broke out, and Lien Desheng became one of the leaders of the workers' strike movement of the British Commercial Tramway Company.

In addition to the May 30th Movement, Lien Desheng also participated in three armed uprisings of Shanghai workers and was elected as the president of the first branch of the Shanghai Public Concession Tramway Union.

Lien Desheng was very prestigious. He once worked with Gu Shunzhang and others to suppress the scabs who broke the strike.

Once, all tram workers in Shanghai went on strike and the city's trams stopped running. Only the driver and conductor on one trolleybus were bribed by the capitalists and refused to go on strike and continued to run.

So, one night, four people, including Lian Desheng and Gu Shunzhang, jumped on the tram with guns and forced it to stop running immediately.

In 1927, Chiang Kai-shek launched the "April 12" counter-revolutionary coup and massacred workers and Communists.

People in his original unit knew Lian Desheng's identity. He could not go back, so he had to follow the party organization's arrangements and study at Moscow Oriental University.

After Lien Desheng returned to China in 1928, he was transferred to Special Branch and served as the deputy captain of the "Red Team", responsible for punishing traitors.

At that time, the Kuomintang was also preparing to establish a Party Affairs Investigation Section, which would later be known as the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The Kuomintang sent a special commissioner to Shanghai to be responsible for establishing a spy organization.

The special commissioner's name is Yang Dengying. Although he is an official of the Kuomintang on the surface, he actually has quite close friendship with the Communists.

As soon as he arrived in Shanghai, Yang Dengying contacted Chen Yangshan, a member of the Communist Party of China with whom he was familiar, and expressed his willingness to secretly help the Communist Party.

Therefore, under the instruction of Premier Zhou, Chen Geng established a secret contact with Yang Dengying.

In order to facilitate the transmission of information, Chen Geng sent Lien Desheng to act as Yang Dengying's bodyguard.

Lian Desheng is tall, bold and careful. Whenever Yang Dengying receives urgent information, he will hand it over to Lian Desheng and ask him to quickly pass it on to the Central Special Branch.

In a situation where the enemy was strong and we were weak, the information conveyed by Lien Desheng protected the safety of countless underground party members, allowing Premier Zhou and others to save themselves from danger many times and avoid many losses.

On August 24, 1929, Communist Party member Peng Pai and others who were having a meeting in a small building on Xinzha Road in China were arrested on the spot by the French Concession patrol because they were betrayed by traitors.

Premier Zhou was originally going to attend a meeting that day, but something happened and he couldn't go, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to escape this disaster.

Not long after Peng Pai and others were arrested, Yang Dengying found out that the traitor named Bai Xin was the one who tipped off the enemy.

Yang Dengying quickly asked Lien Desheng to report to Premier Zhou and others.

Next, Premier Zhou asked people to actively rescue the arrested comrades, while at the same time he set about eradicating the traitor Bai Xin.

Unfortunately, the rescue operation failed in the end, and comrades such as Peng Pai and Yang Yin were brutally killed by the enemy.

Afterwards, in order to confuse the public, the Kuomintang deliberately released false news, saying that Bai Xin had been taken to Nanjing and received leniency.

In fact, Bai Xin did not go to Nanjing at this time, but was hiding in the residence of Fan Zhengbo, the Kuomintang spy chief.

Fan Mansion is heavily guarded. Bai Xin knows that he has committed an unforgivable crime and the Central Special Branch will not let him go. Therefore, he lives in seclusion. Occasionally he goes out and is surrounded by a large number of special agents for personal protection. It is difficult for the Special Branch members to Find the opportunity to lay down your phone.

Not long after, Lian Desheng received another piece of unfavorable news from Yang Dengying: In order to escape the fate of being punished, Bai Xin planned to flee to Italy to avoid the limelight, and the departure time was set for November 11.

It will be too late if you don’t start!

Premier Zhou issued an emergency order to get rid of Bai Xin before he left.

If you want to kill Bai Xin under heavy protection, you must have a good pistol.

Therefore, Chen Geng specifically asked Lian Desheng to find a way to get a large revolver .

At that time, the bodyguard of military commander Zhang Daofan had an American-made Colt revolver in his hand. This pistol has a long range and is powerful. If he can get it, the chance of success in killing Bai Xin will be even greater!

The day after receiving the order, Lian Desheng followed Yang Dengying to visit Zhang Daofan. Yang Dengying first tricked Zhang Daofan's bodyguard into the car on the grounds that he needed a bodyguard for a ride. Then, when the car drove to a secluded place , Yang Dengying also lied that he liked guns and wanted to "appreciate" Zhang Daofan's bodyguard's gun.

As soon as he got the gun, Lien Desheng stepped forward and subdued Zhang Daofan's bodyguard.

Just like that, the gun needed for action is available, and Bai Xin's death is coming.

At around 11 o'clock in the evening on November 11, Bai Xin left Fan's mansion surrounded by Fan Zhengbo and others.

Just as Bai Xin and Fan Zhengbo said goodbye and were about to get in the car, a black car suddenly rushed out from the corner in front of the mansion. Before anyone could react, the black car had stopped at the door of Fan's mansion. Three people jumped out of the car. He raised his gun and shot at Bai Xin.

Before the Kuomintang agents who were guarding Bai Xin came to their senses, the Special Forces team members who completed the assassination mission had jumped into the car and quickly disappeared into the night, leaving only the dying Bai Xin lying on the ground. After

completed the mission of killing Bai Xin, Lian Desheng continued to lurk and sent out a lot of confidential information, allowing important leaders such as Premier Zhou to save themselves from danger many times.

and above, this is what Lian Guangrong learned about his grandfather's situation in Tecoli. But the question is, why did grandpa suddenly leave Shanghai in the first place? Where did he go?

In fact, the most important reason why Lien Desheng left Shanghai was Gu Shunzhang's rebellion.

Gu Shunzhang was originally the head of the Operations Section of the Special Branch, and was directly responsible for punishing traitors.

However, no one expected that Gu Shunzhang himself would eventually become the most dangerous traitor in the history of the CCP.

In April 1931, Gu Shunzhang was arrested by Kuomintang agents. He soon rebelled and gave away a large number of secrets, which led to the arrest of more than 800 Communists.

If Qian Zhuangfei, an agent who had infiltrated the Central Unification Committee, had not obtained the top-secret information about Gu Shunzhang's rebellion in time and notified the Party Central Committee of the transfer before the agents took action, I am afraid that Premier Zhou and other leaders would have suffered.

For safety reasons, all comrades who were familiar with Gu Shunzhang before were transferred, including Lian Desheng.

When Lien Desheng wrote to his family, it was when he was about to leave Shanghai.

However, where did Lien Desheng go after leaving Shanghai? Lian Guangrong really couldn't find out.

There was no other way. He first contacted Mu Xin, the author of "Zhou Enlai, Commander of the Hidden Front". As a result, Mu Xin didn't know about it and asked Lian Guangrong to inquire with the Ministry of National Security.

So, in the second half of 2008, Lian Guangrong sent two letters to the Ministry of National Security.

About a month or two after the letter was sent, a woman from the Ministry of State Security called and said that Lien Desheng had been found. He died during the Red Army Long March.

It turns out that after Lien Desheng left Shanghai, he traveled to the Central Soviet Area. He first served as a hospital administrator and chief of the transportation department in the base area. After the Red Army began the Long March, he was ordered to stay in the Central Soviet Area and persisted in guerrilla warfare with Chen Yi and others. war .

In early March 1935, during a breakout, our army was outnumbered and suffered heavy casualties. Except for a handful of people who broke out of the encirclement, most of them died heroically. Five cadres, including Lian Desheng and Liu Bojian, director of the military region's political department, were unfortunately injured and arrested.

In the cell, Lien Desheng and others were unyielding and endured cruel torture, but never revealed the secrets of the party and the Red Army guerrillas.

On March 21, Lian Desheng and others were taken to the execution ground and died generously.

On March 21, 2009, 74 years after Lian Desheng’s death, his grandson Lian Guangrong rushed to Ganzhou, Jiangxi with an urgent mood. In the Ganzhou Archives, they saw a document dated April 1, 1935. The communiqué issued by the Japanese Kuomintang showed that Lian Desheng, Liu Bojian, Wang Zhikai and other five people were killed together.

Looking at this communiqué, Lian Guangrong couldn't help but burst into tears.

In February 2010, the Ministry of Civil Affairs officially ratified Lien Desheng as a revolutionary martyr.

Lian Guangrong and his wife held the notice and burst into tears with excitement. In order to find out the whereabouts of grandpa, several generations of the Lian family have spent many years. Now everything is finally revealed. Grandma knew it, so she can rest in peace!

Our nation has never lacked heroes.

In that era, there were many, many heroes like Lien Desheng who devoted their blood to the revolution and sacrificed silently.

Pity the blood of thousands of heroes, in exchange for the new world today!

Few people know your names, but your achievements will last forever!
