As we all know, after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, many ethnic groups were still in the slave society , such as Yi , Wa . They will take people into their own slaves, and even treat people as sacrificial offerings to gods. And what we are going to talk about today is the same thing~ After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Wa people still used human heads to sacrifice. Chairman Mao said: Don’t use human heads and replace them with other things. What's the matter? Let's briefly talk about it below. Every major event, event, or disaster, the Wa people hold grand sacrificial activities.
led by the respected Bachai (priest) of the tribe, the people of the tribe will perform worship rituals with the holiest and most pious soul, and offer sacrifices to the gods, praying that they will bestow the tribesmen from disaster and happiness Ankang. Whenever sacrificial activities are held, they will cut off the buffalo head as a sacrifice, and those who participate in the worship will also bring banana fruit, sugar cane, tea, rice, red rice, rooster and other sacrifices to follow. After the ceremony begins, Bachai will chant mantras, kill chickens, and spread rice and tea sacrificed to the gods to the bull's head and guests to show good luck.
Participants can go to Bachai to tie a blessing thread, and hang sacrifices or coins on the bull's head pile to pray for happiness, auspiciousness, and peace. However, before the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Wa people did not sacrifice with cow heads, but with the heads of living people, hanging the heads on the piles. This head pile is also called a basket, which is made of bamboo or wood. The object of human head sacrifice must be a young, healthy, and strong man with a beard on his face. In the beginning, this kind of living sacrifices were made with people of their own clan, or the kind of voluntary sacrifice.
But slowly, there are fewer and fewer voluntary donors. Faced with this situation, the various tribes of the Wa people began to wage wars, selecting suitable candidates from the men of the defeated tribes. Later, the Wa people changed their sacrifice objects to prisoners of war. Of course,The reason why the Wa people were able to abolish the backward feudal custom of using human heads as sacrifices was due to a sentence from Chairman Mao. In 1950, Pu Guangcai, the chieftain of the Yi nationality in Yanfeng, Chuxiong, Yunnan, organized the so-called Western Yunnan Youth Anti-Food Army under the instigation of the Kuomintang special agent Fan Yuzhou. He killed one side for a long time and was defeated by the 118 regiment.
Pu Guangcai later fled to the territory of the Wa people in Bangqing Dazhai, Zhongke Township, Ximeng County, Yunnan. Because the ethnic contradiction between the Yi and Wa peoples was very sharp at the time, and Bangqing Dazhai was also engaged in a head sacrifice ceremony at the time, so when they saw Pu Guangcai, an outsider coming with feud, they quickly tied him up and prepared to chop him. Put down Pu Guangcai's head to sacrifice to the gods. Just as Pu Guang's life was hanging by a thread, the 118 regiment came and let the Wa people release. The Wa people refused, and determined to cut off Pu Guangcai's head to sacrifice to the gods.
118 group had to lie, saying that Pu Guang was sent back to be decapitated, and then they gave Bangqing Dazhai some food, bulls, donkeys, and canned food. Then the two sides tried to fight for wine, winning the Wa leader ~ La Meng, before it was considered to save Pu Guangcai's life. After Pu Guangcai was rescued, he heard that his wife and children had been treated with leniency, so he persuaded the Yi people to lay down their weapons and embrace the new government. At the end of May 1950, Gong Guoqing, then mayor of Zhutang District, Lancang County, was sent to invite La Meng to attend the first National Day celebration after the founding of New China in Beijing.
La Meng was afraid to go, so he refused the invitation because the Wa people did not go far. After Gong Guoqing repeatedly persuaded La Meng to agree to go to Beijing, but proposed three conditions: 1. To have Han cadres go with him; 2. Gong Guoqing must use one of his sons as a hostage, if within 4 months Lameng did not return to Bangqing Dazhai, which means he had been killed, and the copycats killed Gong Guoqing's son; 3. The above must be given to Bangqing Dazhai with 1,000 catties of salt and 100 pieces of homespun cloth. Of course, Lameng has met all these conditions.
and that’s it,La Meng finally agreed to go to Beijing to observe the ceremony. He arrived in Beijing on September 30, 1950, was invited to attend a state banquet hosted by Premier Zhou on the same day, and attended the National Day ceremony on October 1. On October 3, representatives of 43 nationalities across the country gathered in Huairentang . Chairman Mao asked La Meng at that time: "I heard that your people have the custom of beheading people's heads. Can you not cut people's heads and replace them with monkey heads and rat heads?" La Meng replied, "It's not good to use monkey heads, but use tiger heads instead. Yes, but tigers are not easy to catch."
Chairman Mao said: "This matter is up to your nation to discuss it, but don’t use the human head. You can replace it with something else!" La Meng said immediately and went back. I will discuss the changes with everyone in the future. On parting, the chairman presented La Meng with a pistol and 50 bullets. In the same year, the Wa compatriots responded to Chairman Mao’s proposal and switched to using bull heads to hold sacrificial ceremonies. After that, the Wa people began to abandon the custom of using human heads to sacrifice ceremonies step by step and switch to ox head sacrifices. However, it was not until 1958 that the custom of using human heads to sacrifice sacrifices was completely stopped.
During this period, many people were beheaded again. For example, in Lancang County in 1956, 270 people were beheaded to worship. In 1957, 13 scientific and technical personnel engaged in geological exploration in the National Geological Exploration Team came to Lancang for prospecting. As a result, all 13 people were beheaded and taken to sacrifices. However, under the government's prohibition, the number of people who were beheaded for sacrifice in 1957 was reduced from 270 in 1956 to 190, and in 1958 it was reduced to 90. In 1958, an incident occurred, and the vice habit of the Wa people to behead their heads and sacrifices was completely abolished.
This year, a Wa member of the Wa ethnic group did not abide by the law and did not listen to the warning of the tribe. He ran to the family living on the mountain (a wife, children, and elderly people), all beheaded, and then Carrying 7 people's heads proves the big go home. After that, the Public Security Bureau arrested him and shot him to death at the meeting, as an example. From then on, the Wa people's evil habit of beheading their heads and offering sacrifices was finally abolished. And with the progress of society and the improvement of living standards,Nowadays, the Wa people no longer need human head sacrifices, and even such activities as sacrifices are becoming less and less.
