He emphasized that APEC is entering a new period of development.It is necessary to strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination, maintain economic and financial stability in the Asia-Pacific region, promote members to deepen economic restructuring, advance the process of Asia-Pacific economic integration, maintain and develop an open world economy, and promote the Asia-Pacific region to continue to play an engine role in the recovery of the world economy.
He said that the current world economic situation is generally developing in a good direction, but unstable and uncertain factors are still prominent, and the realization of the full recovery and healthy growth of the world economy is still facing severe challenges. APEC should show courage and determination, play a leading and coordinating role, maintain and develop an open world economy, and promote the Asia-Pacific region to continue to play an engine role in the recovery of the world economy.
He made 3 suggestions on this. First, strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination and work together to promote the common development of the Asia-Pacific. We must uphold the spirit of openness, tolerance, and win-win cooperation, and promote the formation of an open development pattern featuring policy coordination, growth linkage, and interest integration in the Asia-Pacific region. Second, judge the situation objectively, deal with challenges calmly, and spare no effort to maintain economic and financial stability in the Asia-Pacific region. We must prevent the superposition of risks from causing major economic and financial turbulence in the Asia-Pacific region, and use social policies to underpin economic policies to prevent economic and financial risks from evolving into political and social issues. At the same time, we must see that the Asia-Pacific region’s common aspirations for peace, stability, and development have not changed, the rising trend of its status and role in the world’s political and economic landscape has not changed, and the driving force and potential for sustained and rapid economic growth have not changed. We have reason to remain confident in the development prospects of the Asia-Pacific. Third, focus on the long-term and promote the deepening of economic restructuring of all members, so as to inject greater impetus into the sustainable development of the Asia-Pacific region. We must transform the mode of economic development, promote reform and innovation, release the potential of domestic demand, innovation power, and market vitality, deepen the integration of industrial chains and value chains, and promote the Asia-Pacific region to take the lead in forming a new growth industry cluster in the world.
