MM's sandwich chocolate candy beans are household names in the world. Today, its parent company Mars announced the launch of a "purple" candy, which is also the first MM peanut candy to appear as a woman in history. More than 10 million followers voted in May to add the color to the candy rainbow, winning in aqua blue and pink.

Jane Hwang, Global Vice President of Mars Wrigley, said in a statement: "Mars is pleased to launch the latest member of the MM character for the first time to the world. There are many things that people can understand and appreciate for our new spokesperson, including her willingness to embrace her true self - our new character reminds us to value what makes us unique."
Purple MM candy was actually one of the standard colors when it debuted in 1941, but was replaced by tan in 1949. In 1995, fans voted to swap beans in beige beans for blue, and over the years, Mars has changed the color of its flagship candy several times, including some changes for seasonal promotions.
Today, purple has added a lineup of red, yellow, orange, green, blue and brown, making it the first time in 10 years that the sugar bean color has been added.
Although the green MM has always appeared as a charming female image in Go-go-boot, "purple" is the first MM to appear as a female image. Her arrival is marked by "I'm Just Gonna Be Me", a new promotional song and music video launched on Tuesday.
For every "I'm Just Gonna Be Me" played, MM's will donate $1 to the music nonprofit "Sing for Hope", up to $500,000.
Earlier this year, the candy company announced a partnership with rapper Lil Nas X to include a "Long Live Montero" MM's packaging with candy printed with butterflies, rapper's face and pink, blue and purple heart-shaped souvenirs. This limited edition package costs $49.99, and some of the proceeds will also go to "Sing for Hope".
