"No Longer Welcome: The Epidemic of Expulsion from Early Childhood Education" (No Longer Welcome: The Epidemic of Expulsion from Early Childhood Education)
Katherine M. By Zisser, Oxford University Press , August 2022
More and more scholars are beginning to pay attention to the crises in early childhood education. In the United States, hundreds of children are expelled from nurseries and preschool classes every day, almost three times that of primary and junior high school students. Among those expelled from schools, boys and black children are usually the highest proportion. The author mentioned that the expulsion of these children is a sign of the early childhood education crisis—the burden on teachers, insufficient school funds, and lack of systematic support. The authors point out that in early childhood education, expulsion is the result of a series of adult decisions, but these decisions are often disturbed by other factors, such as teachers in schools tend to be underpaid and have limited attention and energy. In the book, the author demonstrates various factors that expel children in schools through dialogue with parents, teachers, preschool administrators and policy makers. The authors point out that policy makers should provide educators with high-quality training and invest enough classroom resources to relieve teachers’ stress and thus provide children with higher quality services.

"Fragile Futures: The Uncertain Economics of Disasters, Pandemics, and Climate Change" (Fragile Futures: The Uncertain Economics of Disasters, Pandemics, and Climate Change)
Vito Tanzi (Vito) Tanzi), Cambridge University Press , July 2022
In this book, the author revisits the difference between economists Frank Knight and John Maynard Keynes in 1921 about the difference between two concepts, namely, statistically predictable future events (i.e., "risks") and statistically unpredictable uncertain events (i.e., "uncertainty"). The author points out that the latter is often overlooked by the government, believing that phenomena such as pandemics, natural disasters and climate change are uncontrollable natural disasters, and therefore have little preparation for future disasters. However, modern society is more interconnected and globalized than ever before, and responding to uncertain future events requires a stronger and more coordinated government response. The author points out that governments should play a greater and more global role in dealing with these disasters. To achieve any form of progress in the future of humanity, major institutional reforms are necessary, such as regulating the private sector for the common good, and addressing special harms, risks and crises, especially those associated with climate change and pandemics.

Education: A Global Compact for a Time of Crisis
Marcelo Suárez-Orozco and Carola ed. Suárez-Orozco), Columbia University Press , July 2022
In this era of disasters - uncontrolled climate change, extreme poverty, and pandemic - how should we design schools to provide students with high-quality education? In this book, scholars and practitioners from different disciplines such as anthropology , neuroscience, demographic , psychology, child development, sociology and economics have expressed their unique views on the global education situation. The researchers discussed the relationship between educational policy and practice and explored how education can promote social inclusion and serve all children. The researchers emphasized the core role of education in improving society and the environment, the foundation of education and its important role in human prosperity, personal dignity and sustainable development, explored the different educational problems arising from immigrants, refugees, and forced displaced people under the influence of extreme situations such as climate change, and discussed how inequality and discrimination can be reduced through education. This book points out that education is global and interdisciplinary, and improving education can help mankind deal with the pressing challenges of the current era.

"Adaptation to climate change: An Earth Institute Sustainability Primer" (Climate Change Adaptation: An Earth Institute Sustainability Primer)
Lisa Dell (Lisa) Dale), Columbia University Press, July 2022
climate change policies usually emphasize "migration" and call for reduction of emissions and rid of the use of fossil fuels. However, while countries around the world work together, floods, wildfires, droughts and other disasters are becoming more frequent. As risks escalate, we must know how to adapt to changing climates. For example, how can farmers respond to climate change to the greatest extent and improve food security? Can coastal cities protect their infrastructure from sea level rise ? What methods should developing countries adopt to combine environmental protection with economic growth and poverty reduction? For people and society around the world, these problems are not only theoretical, but occur in every aspect of life. In this book, the author provides a concise overview of climate adaptation governance. The author introduces the theories and practices on which climate adaptation work is based on local and globally, provides inspiring case studies and principles of good governance, pointing out that equity and inclusion are key to addressing climate change, and that climate adaptation policies should take into account the needs of various groups.

"Relationships 5.0: How AI, VR, and Robots Will Reshape Our Emotional Lives)
by Elyakim Kislev, Oxford University Press, April 2022
technology is our new life partner. New interactive technologies, such as AI therapists, will no longer be limited to being bystanders, but will transform into friends and robot assistants, starting to transform the role of technology from basic convenience tools to intimate elements of our social and emotional lives. This book combines disciplines such as science, sociology, history and psychology, showing the changes brought about by technological development to human family life and emotional needs, pointing out that we are currently undergoing a transformation in the technological paradigm, which is similar to the previous agricultural, industrial and information revolutions in human history. While many remain cautious about human and technological partnerships, this book reveals that these new interactions are not as risky as people once thought, but can make our social and emotional lives richer and more diverse. What will our relationship with new technologies look like in the future? How should we prepare for such an era? The author proposes that new technologies will change the future of mankind, and we should stay away from fear and move towards new reality.

"Protecting and Safeguarding Children in Schools: A Multi-Agency Approach"
Mary Bakinsky (Mary) Baginsky) , University of Bristol Press, August 2022
schools play a vital role in protecting children and adolescents. The United Nations Children's Issue clearly states that all countries in the world must protect children from any form of violence, exploitation and discrimination so that every child can grow up healthily. However, how should schools identify hazards related to children? How to deal with issues related to child protection? How to engage and cooperate with community and locally relevant children’s services? In this book, the author introduces the role of schools in child protection, decision-making processes in child protection, and processes in cooperation with relevant institutions. The author points out that scholars, practitioners and managers in the fields of child social care and education should pay attention to the role of schools in child protection and maintain effective communication with schools in policy formulation. Through a large number of practical cases and research data, the author explores a series of historical issues on child protection, showing the latest research results, pointing out that strengthening child protection requires joint collaboration between families, communities and schools.
