In October 2022, the 8th Guanyin Cultural Festival in Hong Kong held the theme forum of "Peaceful World·Starting from Compassion". Wen Jinyu, director of the Pure Land Culture Research Center of Renmin University of China and visiting professor at Zhuhai College, Hong Kong, attended the forum and responded to the topic of "'Compassion' is the foundation for resolving disputes". Professor Wen Jinyu shared the Guanyin culture in his heart from four aspects. He called for not only believing in Guanyin and worshiping Guanyin, but also learning Guanyin and being Guanyin, and implementing the Guanyin spirit in charity.

First, the universality of Guanyin culture. The most fundamental characteristic of Guanyin is her "harmony" spirit. Guanyin is a symbol of "love", a symbol of "compassion", and a portrait of the "goddess of compassion" in the entire human belief. So today, when the world is not peaceful, especially under the epidemic, holding such a sacred meeting is very consistent with the mood of today's prayer.

Second, the local nature of Guanyin culture. It has been the ninth month since I came to Hong Kong. The biggest feeling that Hong Kong has given me is the diversity of culture. How can we demonstrate the independence of Guanyin culture in this diverse world? I thought of Guanyin Bodhisattva an image of her clone of tens of billions of bodies. The sutra says: "Whoever should be saved in the body will appear and preach it." In this way, the spirit of "compassion" and "harmony" of the Bodhisattva can be highlighted in the diverse culture.

I see that there are more and more elderly people in Hong Kong now, and society is getting older. The life expectancy of Hong Kong people is the world's number one, according to reports. How do we view the issue of aging? In fact, there is a very good "spirit of respecting the elderly" in Guanyin culture. For example, we call Guanyin "Guanyin Lao Mother" and respect our elders like we offer to Bodhisattvas.

Another phenomenon has appeared now, which is "fewer births". Guanyin Bodhisattva has a very good compassionate meaning in this regard, and it has the function of "sending children". To promote Guanyin culture today, we must explore its meaning in the local nature.

Third, the modernity of Guanyin culture. How can our modern society highlight the modernity of Buddhist culture , Taoist culture, Confucian culture . After coming to Hong Kong, my biggest feeling is that life is very fast and the pressure is very high.

The general "anxiety" and "depression" in the population are now a big problem facing the whole world. I think the saying "Avalokitesvara" just now is very good. Using the positive thoughts of "Avalokitesvara" can clear away the haze of "depression".

In addition to treating individual psychological problems, it is also the team spirit of the group. There are different combinations in the "Guanyin culture", such as "Three Saints of the West", "Hanxia Three Saints of the World", "Hanyin Three Saints of Guanyin", "Twenty-Eight Tribes", etc. We found that Guanyin culture exists in all spatial levels, and Guanyin led a Bodhisattva legion, walking on the road of human love.

The last one is that Guanyin culture must be implemented . We must not only believe in Guanyin and worship Guanyin, but also learn Guanyin, do Guanyin , and implement the spirit of Guanyin in charity. Some people say that if mercy does not have a charity, it is like a bell that cannot be ringed in one word. Today, when we are calling for Guanyin culture, we should pay attention to the characteristics of Guanyin culture. It is the "Great Compassion Practice". Bodhisattva practice is what Bodhisattvas should do, and Bodhisattva Path is the path that Bodhisattvas should take.
