02. About the origin of the holy name [Prayer]?

The Guanyin belief was introduced to China around the Wei and Jin Dynasties. With the prosperity of the Pure Land Sect in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the Guanyin belief became increasingly popular.

Due to that period, the whole society was unstable and the people lived a heavy life. They hoped that there would be a savior who saved the people from water and fire and rescued the people from the upside down.

In the huge fo religion kingdom of ancient India , the Chinese people quickly chose to have great wisdom and compassion as the spiritual sustenance to save their suffering.

The Pure Land Sect simplifies the process of burning incense and worshiping Buddha. As long as you call [Pray] in times of crisis, you can get the help of [Pray] .

We can understand this way that the social unrest during the Wei and Jin Dynasties was the social reality that caused the prevalence of this belief.

Regarding the origin of the name [Prayer], according to the scriptures, it can be summarized into three types of names.

The first type of " Compassion Sutra " says: [Prayer] When you first start practicing, it is the name given to him by the treasure Tathagata .

The second type of " Shurangama Sutra " says: [Prayer] During the process of practice, I met Guanyin Tathagata to teach the perfect method of ear roots and granted my name to me.

The third "Universal Door Chapter" says: [Prayer] After becoming a Bodhisattva, you will "see the "sound" of suffering sentient beings in the "world", so as to seek sound to save suffering. Because of this, it is named Guanyin .

In addition, in Tang Dynasty , he avoided the "world" taboo of Emperor Taizong of Tang Li Shimin, which was later referred to as "[Prayer]".

[Prayer] In terms of statue creation, in addition to being the left servant of Amitabha Buddha, there are also many statues dedicated separately.

In the Bodhisattva statue, [Prayer] is the most numerous and most complex category, because she advocates "saving according to the different identities and causes of sentient beings, and transforms into various identities to save sentient beings according to their different identities and causes.

1. Saint Guanyin

This kind of image usually wears a crown on his head, and there is a statue of Amitabha Buddha in the middle of the crown. The upper body is exposed or covered with a sky-high clothes, wear necklaces and , and a silk skirt with a waist. The whole body is decorated with gorgeous appearance, dignified and kind expression.

The [Prayer] Dharma-Records are mostly female-like appearances, wearing white celestial clothes, and their faces are similar to those of ancient Chinese ladies.

2, eleven side Guanyin

eleven side [Pray] refers to [Pray] with a total of eleven faces arranged in five layers.

The three sides of the left side represent the transformation of evil sentient beings; the three sides of the middle represent the transformation of good sentient beings; the three sides of the right side represent the transformation of good sentient beings; the three sides of the right side represent the transformation of silence, represents the transformation of pure karma from the world . These nine sides represent the three realms of education.

The tenth side is an image of anger, which means that the education cause needs to have great majesty to subdue various evil realms in the three realms and six realms; the top level is the eleventh side, which indicates that the merits are complete.

Thousand-Hand Thousand-Eyed [Prayer], also known as Thousand-Eyed Thousand-Eyed [Prayer], is the great compassion [Prayer] in the six [Prayer].

5. Zhunti Guanyin

Ruyi Wheel [Prayer] is named after holding the Ruyi Jewel and the Wheel Treasure. The wishful jewel represents satisfying the prayers of sentient beings, and the wheel of the wheel of Dharma means that the wheel of Dharma is always rotating.
