Most parents (maybe 95%? No surveyed) want to ask a question - why does my kids like to read books?
I have asked this question countless times. By looking through the book and materials, I finally understood the reasons.
If the child is not bought by his parents for him, he will definitely read it. He needs to slowly establish reading habits. This process probably requires the following four stages.
Stage 1—Book-turning period
How old should children start to build reading habits? The answer is that as long as they know how to sit, they can start to build reading habits.
At this time, we can hold the child and sit on our legs. Of course, he is completely unfamiliar with books at this time. He may tear the books or even chew the books. This is normal, and there is no need to stop him. He is just exploring this world full of novelty. If he gets punishment from his parents at this time, he will lose interest in books. It will be difficult to establish a reading habit and fall in love with reading.
Slowly, the child will find that the correct way to open this kind of thing called "book" is to "turn it". Yes, he will learn to turn it through books by himself, and he will think that the book is quite fun.
At this time, we can choose some interesting touch books, voice books, cloth book , etc., so that children can read, touch and play. In this way, they will be very interested in the book and will not feel rejected by the book.
Stage 2-Picture Period
During this period, the child will start to observe the pictures in the book and be very interested in the details in the book, which means that the child has entered the picture period of the development of reading habits.
At this time, parents can play these two games with their children: refers to the cultivation of pictures and oral language.
refers to the picture to identify objects, which means we can point to things in the photos, such as puppies, teapots, etc., and then ask the child what this is? This is a puppy, this is a teapot, and children will begin to recognize these objects, animals, etc. in life.
Oral training is to let children describe these things, such as asking children how to bark? What color is a puppy? Or ask your child about the size, quantity, etc.
Through these two mini games, children can improve their observation and expression of the world.
Stage 3-Story Period
At this stage, parents can read the story to their children and start guiding their children to predict and recall. For example, after reading a story, we can ask the child to retell what the story just now told. You can also pause in the middle of the story to let the child describe what will happen next.
If parents are patient enough, they can also discuss with their children who they like, who they don’t like, and what are the reasons for their likes and dislikes in this story. This way children can learn to express their opinions and feelings.
Stage 4 - Text Period
Children at this stage are almost at the age of middle school in kindergarten, and parents can start to guide their children to learn literacy. According to statistics, nearly 90% of Chinese characters are phonographs, where radicals are ideologic, and radicals are pronunciation, so children should pay more attention to radicals of characters, so that the efficiency of literacy will be higher.
If parents do a good job at this stage, then the child will recognize a lot of words in the first grade of elementary school, and can basically cross the threshold of independent reading.
Because children's interest in reading is cultivated through correct steps, when they arrive in elementary school, parents do not need to keep an eye on and supervise every day, and children will read by themselves, so that parents will save a lot of worry.
