How old should a baby wear shoes? After learning to walk independently and steadily.
The structure of human feet is complex, containing 26 bones and 35 joints, connected and supported by ligaments. Baby's feet have a lot of fat and are very soft, giving them the soft and squishy feeling we usually see.
Most babies start to learn to walk between the ages of 8-18 months. During the period of learning to walk, the baby's feet are in contact with the ground, thus gaining rich touch and perception. During the period of toddlers, it is recommended to go barefoot or wear shoes with as soft soles as possible, which will help them feel their feet and exercise their muscles.
When your baby has learned to walk and can walk relatively steadily independently, you can wear shoes with solid soles to protect your feet while keeping warm in winter and preventing burns in summer.
When choosing shoes for children,
I have compiled the following 7 basic logics:
1. Fitting
This is the first principle.
Before the age of six, children's feet are not fully developed and the bones are soft; the ligaments and nerves in the feet are relatively easier to stretch. Ill-fitting shoes may cause damage to your child's feet, so no matter how beautiful or cheap they are, don't buy or wear them.
Therefore, in order to ensure that the size and width of the shoes are suitable, you should try on both feet when trying on the shoes; after putting them on, there should be a certain gap between the longest toe (usually the big toe) and the top of the shoe, such as about half a thumb. Width (approximately 1-1.5 cm).
2. Choose light, flexible shoes
During the toddler period, the bending of children's feet occurs on the soles of the feet near the toes, so the soles of children's shoes should also be flexible and easy to bend in the corresponding positions. Do not choose shoes with hard, thick soles that are not easy to bend.
3. Choose shoes with a strong heel cup.
The heel cup is the part that covers the child's heel. Choose shoes that do not bunch up or collapse toward the sole when the sides of the heel cup are squeezed. Because such shoes provide better support and protection for the child's heel.
4. Choose buckle or lace shoes
For the support of children's feet, buckle shoes or lace shoes are more ideal than Velcro or elastic shoe shoes.
5. Choose breathable and comfortable materials
For example, genuine leather shoes will be more comfortable and breathable than plastic shoes.
6. Choose shoes with straight-line soles on both sides
Children's feet will not develop until they are 6-8 years old, with an obvious concave arc (arch) like adults. Most children under 3 years old have flat feet and .
Therefore, before children's foot arches are fully developed, their soles should not have concave curvature, but should choose straight-line soles on both sides.
7. The price is in line with the family budget, not the more expensive, the better
Choose shoes that are in line with the family budget, fit well and comfortable, which are good shoes, not the more expensive, the better.
