On the evening of June 29, JD.com Group announced that it had renewed its strategic cooperation agreement with Tencent Holdings for a period of three years. Tencent will continue to provide companies with prominent primary and secondary access points on its WeChat platform to provide traffic support.
Public information shows that in March 2014, Tencent invested in JD.com for the first time. At the same time, Tencent’s original e-commerce business also joined the JD.com family. Subsequently, Tencent participated in the JD.com IPO subscription, and the two parties carried out multi-level cooperation.
However, in December 2021, the relationship between Tencent and JD.com reached a turning point. Tencent suddenly announced that it would distribute approximately 460 million shares of JD.com to shareholders in the form of interim dividends. It is understood that after this dividend payment, Tencent's shareholding ratio in JD.com will be reduced from 17% to 2.3%, and it will no longer be the largest shareholder. At the same time, Tencent President Liu Chiping will also step down as a director of JD.com.
At that time, Tencent stated that it and JD.com would continue to maintain a mutually beneficial and win-win business partnership, including the existing strategic cooperation agreement.
