I wonder if you have noticed that in recent years, some animals that were very common in the past have left our sight. Of course they were not extinct, they were just far away from us, so far that they could not be seen for a whole year or even for several years.
Maybe it's because I'm getting older and I love to think about the past more and more. I miss my hometown and when I was a child. Until one day, I saw it - Tianniu (I don’t know if you have other names for it), and I felt an inexplicable excitement and joy in my heart.
Tianniu (like to appear after the rain)
How long has it been since I seen it? Think about it for at least 20 years, right? Seeing it today is like seeing an old friend I haven’t seen for many years.
Then I thought that it seems that I have not only not seen it over the years, but I have not seen many small animals that were everywhere before, but now I can no longer afford to climb up and can't see it easily. After thinking about it, it is difficult to see things like tadpoles , dragonflies, mantis, longhorn beetles, hornets , cuckoos, owls , etc. Even frogs, snakes, cicada monkeys, locusts, , etc. are not common.
I miss that time, when I was still in bed in the morning, I could hear the crisp cry of "Cuckoo, Cuckoo". The sound of "gulp" in the evening after the summer rain is endless. I took the flashlight and started looking for cicada monkeys in the trees one by one. Speaking of frogs, there is also a breed we call " Qi Toad ", which is larger in size, similar to a child's fist and even bigger. When we see it, we all take a thinner wooden stick or branch and gently tap it on the back. With its outrageous screams, its body will swell like a ball, which is particularly fun. There are also dragonflies. I remember when I was a child, adults told us that if we see groups of dragonflies hovering on the ground, it will be raining. My favorite thing is to swing the dragonfly with a big broom sweeping the yard at home. It flies very fast and doesn't take many photos every time. Later I learned a method, which is to look for it on the nearby small trees in the evening. At this time, it usually rests on the trunk. It just needs to cover it with its hands a little quickly and then pinch its wings.
These animals are rare now, at least this is the case here (typical North China Plain farming area). It should be caused by the large amount of medicine used by crops, right?
But on the contrary, in recent years, sparrows, pheasants, , magpies, have gradually increased, and they often see flying back and forth in pieces. It is said that the power grid is not allowed to be used to catch these birds.
In general, there are a lot fewer types of animals around you. So what small animals have you disappeared over the years?
