Qiu Min, Guoqiang Chair Professor of the School of Engineering at West Lake University, has been conducting research on micro- and nanoscale photothermal regulation and applications for 15 years, focusing on the study of light and micro- and nanoscale Interconversion of light and heat resulting from structural interactions.

is different from traditional macroscopic material systems. The structure at the micro-nano scale greatly changes the interaction between light and matter, resulting in a series of new mechanisms, new phenomena and new applications.

In terms of light absorption, Qiu Min's team achieved the movement of light-induced objects in a vacuum environment for the first time. This research got rid of the traditional light drive's dependence on the liquid environment and opened up the subdivision of light drive in non-liquid environments. The research results were featured on the cover of the " Physical Review Letters " journal and became an editor-recommended paper. The research team also developed a differential device for analog computing. It was the first optical analog computing device with sub-wavelength thickness reported in the world. The research results were selected into the "Top Ten Progress of China's Optical in 2017".

In terms of thermal radiation , the research team used micro-nano photonic structure composite phase change materials to amplify the changes in thermal radiation through local enhancement of the light field, successfully breaking through the bottleneck of thermal radiation regulation; based on micro-nano scale photothermal regulation, We have also developed thermal management fabrics with multiple functions such as insulation, heat dissipation, and power generation. This process can be applied to thermal management of buildings, infrared camouflage, etc.

html On July 11, the "Micro-nanoscale Photothermal Control and Application" completed by Qiu Min, Li Qiang, Zhao Ding, and Ruan Zhichao won the first prize of the 2021 Zhejiang Provincial Natural Science Award. Professor Qiu Min is the first person to complete the project, and the completion units are Zhejiang University and West Lake University .

In the next step, Professor Qiu Min will continue to explore the mechanism of interaction between light and matter at the micro-nano scale, and accelerate the advancement of new technologies such as photothermal nano-drive out of the laboratory and into the market, contributing to national and local economic and social development.
