After nearly three years of construction, the national major scientific and technological infrastructure construction project - multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facility has finally been unveiled. On November 3, the completion ceremony of the multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facility project was held at Huairou Science City . This facility can achieve cross-scale visual depiction and precise measurement of the structure and functions of living organisms, crack the mysteries of life and diseases, and realize the "Chinese creation" of high-end biomedical imaging instruments and equipment.
On the shore of Yanqi Lake in Huairou, a brand new science city is rising from the ground. Peking University has undertaken the construction of several major projects in Huairou Science City. Among them, the multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facility, Beijing Laser Acceleration Innovation Center, and the light element quantum material cross-platform infrastructure project are planned to be fully completed within this year. Peking University Huaimi Medical Center, molecular imaging and medical diagnosis and treatment probe innovation platform are also being implemented.
Multimodal cross-scale biomedical imaging facility started infrastructure construction in March 2020, with construction land exceeding 66,000 square meters, and a new building area of reached 72,000 square meters, and was built in the core area of Huairou Science City. The facility consists of four core devices and an auxiliary platform, including multimodal medical imaging device, multimodal live cell imaging device, multimodal high-resolution molecular imaging device, full-scale image integration system, and auxiliary platforms and supporting facilities such as model animals.
"Imagement facilities are my country's first major national scientific and technological infrastructure in the field of biomedical imaging. They can realize the refined 'photo' imaging of microscopic cells in the human body, helping doctors see clearly and thoroughly." The project's chief scientist and director of the National Biomedical Imaging Science Center of Peking University, Cheng Heping introduced that the facility is expected to provide imagingomic research methods for the research of complex life science problems and major diseases, study and analyze major scientific problems in biomedical, and promote the paradigm changes in biomedical research.
Since the completion of the project, with the installation and trial operation of the equipment, scientific researchers, engineering and technical personnel, operation teams and a large number of teachers and students from Peking University will enter one after another and use imaging facilities to carry out a number of major scientific research. In the future, the facility will also establish an international alliance with biomedical imaging platforms in the United States, the European Union and other places, implement an open, mobile and selective mechanism, and open and share it nationwide.
