In the past 40 years, the cyst behind Grandma Zhang's ear has grown from soybeans to larger than duck eggs, which not only affects the beauty, but also has the risk of hearing loss and cancer. On October 18, Sun Suguang, director of the Department of Otolaryngology, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Surgery at the Sixth Hospital of Wuhan City (Jianghan University Affiliated Hospital), performed an operation and finally removed the "bomb" for Grandma Zhang.
"When I was in my 30s, I first found a soybean-sized mass on my ear, but because it was not painful or itchy, I didn't take it to heart. When I was 50 years old, the mass had grown to the size of a walnut, and the doctor in the local hospital told me that I needed surgery to remove it. I was afraid of pain and the risk of surgery, so I kept dragging it. Until October this year, the tumor grew too big, which made my ears hurt and my hearing decreased, so I mustered up the courage to see a doctor." Grandma Zhang told reporters.
"The cyst is relatively large and its height exceeds the outer auricle. Grandma Zhang even wears a mask," said Sun Suguang, director of the otolaryngology and head and neck surgery, when Grandma Zhang first visited the hospital. After examination, Grandma Zhang's cyst was about 8*7*5CM in size, compressing the ear cartilage. In order to avoid cancer, surgery is needed as soon as possible. "When I heard that the operation was going to be performed, I was very nervous and frightened. After Director Sun learned about the situation, he came to my ward with B ultrasound film to explain to me the morphological characteristics and surgical plan of the cyst. He also told me that it was general anesthesia and there would be no pain, which made me feel relieved." Grandma Zhang said.
, Grandma Zhang had to be hospitalized for several days after the operation. Because her children are busy with work, only her husband who is over 70 years old can take care of her. "Not only did the surgery well, but during the hospitalization, the nurses also took good care of our lives. Seeing that we were old, the head nurse helped us order three meals a day to deliver it. When my wife woke up with her stomach and felt uncomfortable when she woke up, the nurse gave us her small bread. We felt very warm and caring." Grandma Zhang's wife, Daddy Tan, said. Director Sun introduced that cysts and tumors are two different concepts. Cysts are cyst-like benign mass, and most of their contents are sterile liquids and other tissue components, and generally do not have a substantial impact. Tumors are divided into benign and malignant. Malignant tumors are cancers, and once they spread, they will endanger life. However, cysts should not be taken lightly. If the cyst grows rapidly and is large in size, it will cause pressure on important tissues such as blood vessels and nerves, and at worst there will be a risk of cancer.
