Unfortunately, Aunt Chen found brain metastasis during another reexamination in October of that year. After discussing, Professor Tian Huaqin, Director of the Tumor Center of our hospital, and Chen Xuezhang, Director of the Department 1 of the tumor center, discussed it. He weighed that the patient had just finished high-intensity chemotherapy for several months and his positive energy was already weak. If he had double-drug chemotherapy again, he might not be able to tolerate it. Therefore, a comprehensive treatment plan for Chinese and Western medicine for single-drug chemotherapy + targeted treatment + intensive traditional Chinese medicine treatment was formulated for him. The patient's condition was stable after 4 cycles of treatment. However, the subsequent patients had to interrupt treatment due to the epidemic. During a review in June 2020, Aunt Chen found that the brain metastases were significantly enlarged compared with the previous one, and at the same time, she also showed symptoms of ataxia such as unstable walking, abnormal gait, easy body rolling, and inability to walk. So the patient received single-agent chemotherapy and double-agent targeted treatment again. At the same time, traditional Chinese medicine strengthened the control of brain metastases and gave milk-metastasy prescriptions and worm-extinguishing and lucidal drugs. After 3 cycles of treatment, the patient's ataxia symptoms improved significantly compared with the previous period, and the review during the period indicated that the liver and lung metastasis tumor was significantly reduced.

Tian Huaqin and Chen Xuezhang formulated treatment plans for patients
In August last year, the patient again developed symptoms such as speech disadvantage and hemiplegia on the right limb, and the brain metastasis was increased compared with the previous examination. In order to quickly relieve the patient's symptoms and inhibit the explosive progress of tumors, Professor Tian Huaqin formulated a dual-drug chemotherapy + targeted treatment + craniocerebral radiotherapy plan for him, and used acupuncture, Chinese medicine fumigation, Chinese patent medicine intravenous drops, decoction and ointment conditioning and other comprehensive traditional Chinese medicine treatment plans. After treatment, the patient's speech function recovered, the muscle strength of the right limb was restored, and the symptoms of numbness caused by chemotherapy also improved significantly. Currently, the patient speaks fluently and moves freely, and can live normally and work lightly.

Chen Xuezhang said that treatment of advanced breast cancer has always been a clinical problem. Patients often face multiple metastasis, and the functions of various organs of the body are fragile. The side effects of pure Western medicine treatment are too great, which often makes patients unable to persist. In the face of metastatic areas that are difficult to reach such as the brain, the treatment effect is often poor. Our hospital's tumor center usually uses the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy to treat breast cancer. On the basis of Western medicine treatment, we can give full play to the characteristics and advantages of traditional Chinese medicine. We will take a two-pronged approach and often achieve better results than expected.

The above cases fully reflect the therapeutic characteristics of organic integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine and learning from each other's strengths and weaknesses. Because the conditions of patients with advanced breast cancer are complicated, the choice of treatment plans tests the experience and theoretical foundation of clinicians, and there are often no "standard norms" to follow. It is particularly important to choose prescriptions and medications and arrange troops according to the patient's physical condition and disease development characteristics at different stages.

It is reported that our hospital's Oncology Center has been committed to comprehensively using Chinese and Western medical methods to treat breast cancer. Professor Tian Huaqin, the leader of the discipline, mainly uses the idea of "reinforcing the body and eliminating accumulation" to treat breast cancer. After decades of experience, she has summarized a relatively mature treatment theories and methods, covering traditional Chinese and Western medicine, internal treatment and external treatment, and rehabilitation. She also led many provincial and municipal breast cancer-related projects. With the help of the "Peak Plan" for the construction of a high-level hospital in Foshan City, she cooperated with multiple teams such as Shanghai Jiaotong University , Jinan University and other teams to carry out breast cancer research. At present, the effectiveness and mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of breast cancer have been initially confirmed from clinical and basic experiments. The relevant research results have won the third prize of Science and Technology of the Chinese Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. Recently, she was also selected as the Foshan Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Inheritance Studio Construction Project and became the target of training high-level leading traditional Chinese medicine talents.
