After two failures in the college entrance examination, Yu Minhong finally received an admission notice from Peking University after the third college entrance examination. When he came to Peking University to study from his hometown in the countryside, he studied hard, but his health was broken. In 1982, he was a junior in his junior year and was hospitalized due to infectious tuberculosis. This was a whole year.
Because tuberculosis is an infectious disease, during his hospitalization, he was unable to return to the classroom and dormitory. He not only had to fight against the physical pain caused by the disease, but also had to endure the loneliness separated from his classmates.
In fact, when doing anything, you must know that there will definitely be a chance in the middle of danger.
Yu Minhong saw the favorable factors in the crisis, "I can stay alone quietly, I can study hard."
300 days is the longest time he stayed alone. Apart from dating patients, he couldn't even leave the hospital gate. It was this opportunity to be alone with him. He calmed down and read more than 200 books and memorized more than 10,000 words, and improved his knowledge level a lot.
"Keep your own life moving forward." The experience of suffering from tuberculosis made Yu Minhong realize that in the face of difficulties, he insisted on studying and studying, "you will find that the whole world has changed."

Meng Erdong
In the spring of 2004, Professor of the Chinese Department of Peking University Meng Erdong was teaching in Xinjiang and fell ill on the podium of Shihezi University . A malignant tumor the size of a ping-pong ball squeezed his trachea, making it difficult for him to speak; it squeezed his esophagus, making it difficult for him to swallow. With chest, neck, and craniotomy, he underwent three major surgeries in several months and received radiotherapy and chemotherapy in different parts.
Faced with the disease, Meng Erdong has always maintained an optimistic attitude and tenacious perseverance. Many postoperative chemotherapy made it difficult for him to eat and sleep, but he still insisted on practicing calligraphy and studying academic works every day. The eight big characters he often writes are "The bi is not a treasure, but the inch is a competition" . He used this sentence from " Thousand Character Text " to encourage himself to cherish time and life, to do more things in the limited time, and to shine more dazzling light.
In February 2006, Meng Erdong insisted on practicing calligraphy while he was sick. "You have to sit on the bench for ten years, and you don't write a single sentence in the article." This is a vivid portrayal of Meng Erdong's academic ideals and academic character throughout his life. During the more than a year he was on the sickbed, he recruited three new doctoral students and two master students, and personally tutored their paper writing. At the of the 2005 Spring School Games, he appeared in the admission pattern of the Chinese Department. In the subsequent graduate football farewell match of graduate students, he actually played; he also participated in the revision and reprint of "History of Chinese Literature" and published a research paper of 70,000 words... In April 2014, Professor of the Department of History of Peking University Liu Pujiang was diagnosed with lymphoma . He was tortured by the illness, but at the last moment of his life, he was still insisting on the proofreading and sorting of the book " Liao History ". After getting sick, Liu Pujiang wrote in a letter to students:
As long as you don't have a fever and your brain is clear, you can insist on looking at things, and you don't feel sleepy, but instead feel you don't cough much. Today, he is already working on the unified draft of "History of Liao".
During the first chemotherapy, he efficiently completed the revision and unified draft of fifty volumes. In the following two chemotherapy cycles, although he was exhausted, he continued to work and repeatedly considered the proofreading text. After completing the revision, he immediately started to edit the revision rules and prefaces, and the work intensity was no less than a special paper.
2015 winter, only Professor Liu Pujiang, 54, has left us forever. He is known as the "No. 1 researcher in the history of Liao and Jin in China", and he has been interpreting academic ideals with his life.
