Beigu Village has a special geographical location. It is the junction of the four surrounding towns. It is close to Xigu Village in Beixiang Town in the south, Xiyang Village in Fengcun Township in the east, Zhongchenzhuang Village in Shangguo Township in the north, and Hongzhiyi Town where the village is located. This place has been an important transportation station since ancient times, and the name "Hongzhi Station" also has elements of the station, which should be related to it.
Hao Jianshe said that in addition to Donggu, Xigu and Beigu Village in this area, there was also an ancient Nanzhuang village in the past. This village used to belong to Donggu, but now it has merged with Xiaodian to become an independent village called Xiangbei Village.
According to reports, Beigu Village was originally named Guandao Village. There was a big road not far from the south of the village, which was the official road leading to the capital. It is said that after Eight-Nation Alliance entered Beijing, Empress Dowager Cixi passed by this official road when she fled to Shaanxi. This official road is more than 800 meters away from the village and is north of the Weishui River. Ten miles away from the village, there was a pier in the past - similar to beacon tower , which was the place to send signals.
Official road is a major transportation road with six forks. The villagers in that place call it "six intersections" - 6 directions leading to east, west, south and north and oblique insertion, which is truly well connected. The older generation said that the grooves of the wooden wheels with iron nails on the road are clearly visible and very deep.
Why was the village name later changed to Beigu? Hao Jianshe told a legend.
Back then, an old man in the village planted two or three acres of grapes by the village. When Empress Dowager Cixi's men passed by, her guards broke into the vineyard and ate. The old man dared not speak out, but only recognized two of them. One had a big mole on his face and the other had a disability in his ears. Empress Dowager Cixi was not aware of this. She was resting in the inn on the roadside. The old man wanted to ask for an explanation and looked for it.
After Empress Dowager Cixi learned about the situation, in order to strictly enforce military discipline, and on the other hand, she also wanted to leave a good reputation for the people she met on the way to escape, so she gathered all her followers for the old man to identify them. After the old man recognized it, one of them was still the head of the sedan chair, but he refused to admit that he had eaten grapes. In order to find out the truth, Empress Dowager Cixi immediately ordered the carriage to be tested, but found the grape seeds in her stomach, so she compensated the old man.
The old man lived in a place where there were only a dozen families. As soon as Empress Dowager Cixi's team left, the villagers here were afraid of revenge and moved to a place one or two miles away overnight. Because there were Donggu Village and Xigu Village around at that time, the villagers changed the name of the village to Beigu (there were also indigenous people at that time, and the name of the village was unknown). Because I was in a hurry to leave, I didn't even have to take care of the chickens, ducks and other livestock. Unexpectedly, the next day, Empress Dowager Cixi's people really came back and found that there was no one in the village and left. From then on, Beigu Village became Guandao Village.

From the geographical analysis, the legend that Hao Jianshe told coincides with the "village that disappeared overnight" we learned in Xigu Village, and it is very likely that it refers to the same village. The city gate tower reads "Looking at the south to the water"
In the common memory of the older generation, there were originally earthen walls around Beigu Village, which surrounded the entire village tightly.
The city wall is about 150 meters long from east to west and about 300 meters long from north to south. It is a circle of more than 900 meters. The earthen city wall was about 10 meters high and about 3 meters wide, thick and tall. The South City Gate Tower can still be reached, and there is a small house on it.
"When I was a child, I went to the city gate hole in the south. There were 4 big words written above the door hole - 'Looking at the south to the water'." Hao Jianshe recalled that the Danan Gate was a large round hole in the brick hoop, which was the main passage in the village, and there was a door guard next to it. If you come back from a foreign village to watch the show at night, you have to shout the janitor to open the door. In addition to the Danan Gate, there are also small east gates and small west gates in the village, and there is no north gate. Among them, the small Ximen is closed all year round. It is said that opening the Ximen is unlucky for the village; the small East Gate also dug a round hole in the city wall.
Beigu Village used to have seven or eight temples, including Mawang Temple, Daxian Temple, Land Temple, Sanguan Temple (Tianguan, Earth Official, HTML Official, Water Official ), Niangniang Temple, Guanyin Temple, etc. Hao Jianshe said that when he was a child, he often went to Guanyin Temple to slip and slippery, and the stone slabs were polished by his friends. It turned out that the old road to "Hongzhiyi" in the village was at the intersection of Niangniang Temple. In 1958, the Northern Prime Minister suffered heavy floods, and most of the temples were demolished, and all the removed woods helped to save the disaster. "The village had excavated an ancient tomb, and dug out a porcelain tower about 87 cm high and a spoon-shaped bronze ware. It is said that they are currently stored in the Salt Lake District Museum."

We saw at the scene that the re-planned main lane of the new village extended straight west, and we could not see the edge of the sight.
Standing at a crossroads, Hao Jianshe said that this was the location of the Danan Gate back then. There was a dock in front of the Danan Gate, and the passage in the middle was paved with stone slabs. There are 6 large poplar trees growing beside the pond, which are tall and thick, so that two people can hug each other.
"There was a 'Guofu Tower' here, with a platform three or four meters wide. When I was a child, I stayed on the platform when I was watching opera. This was by the west city wall, this was the small east gate, this was the original water tower . At that time, the city wall was taller than the tip of the tree, more than 6 meters..." Hao Jianshe led us through all the alleys of the village, searching for clues of the old city wall, and carefully described the old appearance. We can strongly feel his deep homesickness towards this village.
In fact, most of the old city walls have been demolished, and the only half or piece left is also dilapidated and surrounded by wild jujube tree . A small small earth temple is still there. It is located near the small east gate of the past. Now it is next to the north wall of a new house, and it looks weak and powerless.
Hao Jianshe said that now, the last piece of the north wall, which is relatively complete, has completely disappeared with the completion of the new house of Yang Lishui, and now only a small piece of the east, west and south walls are left.
For the next generation, the hometown of the past has gone far away and is becoming more and more blurred...
I used grain to exchange for salt and ate

1978, Hao Jianshe drove the hand tractor and went to the Salt Chemical Factory No. 2 to pull charcoal slag. After being brought back, the villagers paid 6 yuan for freight and could mix the charcoal slag and coal together to make coal cakes for heating or cooking.
"The salt pond at that time was white, piles of salt, very spectacular. When you go there now, a large piece of water is covered with water."Hao Jianshe said that he had also rode his bike to the bottom of the salt pond to bring salt, and he had to exchange for food because there was little food in the south of the pond. When he went there, he brought twenty or thirty kilograms of grain. People said that in this bag, you can hold as much salt as you can. "The salt caught in the water is still very wet, too heavy, and in fact I can't bring much."
