1. "If you don't know how to study, you won't know how to practice."
Wang Zhuan, assistant vice president of New Oriental Education Technology Group , was born in the northeastern countryside. As a child, he was exempted from a lot of farm work by his parents, and his parents did not like farm work, especially his father, who took the risk of starvation and left his rural hometown with his family.
Many people wonder how they can survive in the city after farming all their lives. Wang Zhuan was also curious, but his father said: "If you don't know, just study. It turns out you don't know how to farm."
"If you don't know, study, and if you don't know, practice." This is the life philosophy passed on to Wang Zhuan by his father.
Wang Zhuan started self-study in the fifth grade of elementary school. He would just mess around and become a lifelong learner.
He is also a beneficiary of learning. After graduation, he joined New Oriental . He was selected as a trainer of New Oriental Group at the age of 24. At the age of 30, he became the national leader of New Oriental's largest business and has managed New Oriental's tens of billions of business.
In 2021, the education and training industry was impacted by policies. Wang Zhuan led the team to study day and night, found the research and development direction, and quickly entered the product experiment stage.
Wang Zhuan’s efficient life is due to his ability to learn. He wrote his efficient learning method into the new book "Learning to Learn". The learning methods in the book have benefited Yu Minhong a lot.
When Yu Minhong wrote the preface to this book:
I have always considered myself a studious person and have summarized some learning methods. However, after reading Wang Zhuan's book, I discovered that there is also a way to summarize learning methods. I actually used the learning methods mentioned in Wang Zhuan's book while reading.
Wang Zhuan summarized this book himself, is to lead ordinary people to find their own way to break the situation.
This sentence sounds empty, but in fact, the book uses a picture to show how to break the situation.
This method is to establish a personal growth system from "knowing" to "doing", which is divided into four steps:
1. Knowledge input; 2. Card management; 3. Building system; 4. Practical application.
To put it simply, it is a process of input, organization and internalization, and practical output. This is how ordinary people break the situation. It is simple to say, but not easy to do.
2. The unity of knowing and doing, the unity of writing
Wang Zhuan said: Becoming stronger quickly does not happen by relying on wishful thinking, but must have your own underlying mentality.
Speaking of the underlying mentality, people think of Wang Yangming. He is one of the few people in Chinese history who can achieve immortality in virtue, meritorious service and words.
Wang Yangming once said - The true and solid knowledge is action, and the clear awareness and careful observation of action is knowledge. That is "the unity of knowledge and action".
Most ordinary people are trapped on the road from "knowing" to "doing". They have heard so many truths, but they still cannot live a good life. Why
can't do it has to do with mobility, but Wang Zhuan believes that the problem is likely to lie in the "thinking" link, that is, when we think we know it, it is often a misunderstanding.
Therefore, Wang Zhuan proposed the "unity of writing and doing". Writing is writing, which is also "knowing". First, it allows us to recognize how much we know. Second, it forces us to think more deeply and use our brains. As we write, our ideas will become clearer.
The second thing is "doing". Doing means doing, trial and error and progress in practice and action.
"Unity of writing" can be said to be that Wang Zhuan superimposed a new methodology on the basis of Wang Yangming's "unity of knowledge and action", that is, "writing", which is the only way for ordinary people to break through.
3. Card writing, the simplest input method
How to write? Does everyone need to learn writing and become a writer? Not so.
The writing mentioned by Wang Zhuan in the book "Learning to Learn" is the most basic card writing, which only needs to be written into cards of three to four hundred words. The
card consists of two parts: [explanation card] and [original text and source].
[Original text and source] Extract the essential sentences that you have learned from books, articles, and courses, and then write down your thoughts and understanding of this excerpt in the [Explanation Card]. Just separate them with a horizontal line in the middle.
cards are divided into three categories: opinion cards, case cards, and method cards. The opinion card is dedicated to recording opinions, the case card is mainly about cases, and the method card is mainly about methodology. Write a title for each card so that it can be easily retrieved later.
Specifically regarding card writing, Wang Zhuan gave several tips:
✔1. Cards should be written for others to see, not for yourself.
This reminder is very necessary, otherwise it will be easy to write "my feelings" and start to let yourself go like a diary. Writing content directly for others to see means that this thinking output requires user thinking, which not only exercises thinking ability, but also exercises output ability.
The great advantage of doing this is that such cards are like Lego blocks . If you write too many, you can easily combine several cards into a complete article.
✔2. Don’t wait, write a card as soon as you are inspired.
When reading a book, inspiration suddenly strikes when I see a certain place, and I have already marked it. Should I continue reading, or should I stop and write a card? What I did was to stop immediately and write a paragraph of my own thoughts. But before, I always doubted whether it was right. But now it has been confirmed in Wang Zhuanshu that it is right. The reason given by
Wang Zhuan is: The result of waiting is often - it's broken, I forgot. Inspiration is a delicacy that needs to be eaten while it is hot. It will not taste good if eaten overnight.
is simply too vivid. Inspiration is a fleeting thing, a gift given to us by the subconscious mind. We must not let it go in vain. Reading is not about finishing a book, but about deeply understanding some content and ultimately changing our cognition and behavior.
Therefore, it is crucial to capture inspiration. These inspirations often form our deep understanding of the content.
✔3. Cards need to be stored in categories and organized regularly.
The purpose of writing cards is not only to deepen your thinking, but also to make it easy to access at any time in the future. Therefore, they need to be classified and stored when writing. For example, Wang Zhuan divides his cards into the following categories:
1. Reading notes; 2. Lecture notes; 3. Bottom-level thinking; 4. Personal growth; 5. Team management; 6. Business management; 7. Family education ; 8. Family happiness.
Everyone can create a first-level directory according to the current life stage and needs, and then create folders for second- and third-level directories under the first-level folder.
Wang Zhuan also said that the folder represents your true thoughts. If you want to see your outlook on life clearly, just look at your own folder.
is convinced. When reading this book, the first-level directories of the folders I created include: reading, writing, personal growth, IP development, family happiness, and psychology. It can be seen that these are the aspects that I value most at this stage of my life.
Seeing this, you can also try to create your own first-level folder directory and start updating your cards.
In addition, regarding tools, I am currently using graphite document . In this regard, you can choose tools that you are familiar with, as long as they are easy to use.
4. Learn from great people, and then build your own personal system
Reading, listening to lectures, watching live broadcasts, and inputting all high-quality content are all learning from the growth system of great people. The difference is that sometimes the learning is sporadic, and sometimes the learning is relatively systematic.
Wang Zhuan admitted frankly in the book "Learning to Learn" that the content of this book can be understood as a disclosure of his personal growth system.
But he also said a very crucial thing - No matter how good other people's systems are, they belong to others. Everyone faces different life situations, and the systems they establish are also different. You cannot use other people's systems to complete your life. Only by establishing your own system can you live your own life.
When it comes to reading and learning courses, it is easy for us to have a trust mentality, thinking that it will be done after we finish learning. There is a kind of lazy thinking behind this, that is, hoping to take other people's systems and apply them directly to one's own. To put it bluntly, this is a mentality of wanting to take shortcuts, using tactical diligence to cover up strategic laziness.
Just like many working people always hope to find their own life mentors, Wang Zhuan believes that the best mentor in life is himself. What we have to do is to carefully analyze our own situation and surrounding environment, continuously input high-quality content, and then build our own system.
5. Five input methods to establish your own personal influence
Through input, writing cards, and building a system, the ending of the closed loop of the personal development system is four words: Action, output.
Learning without taking action is considered inefficient learning. Action alone can only be regarded as personal self-improvement. The greatest reuse of learning is output and sharing to bring value to others.
The biggest benefit to ordinary people in the self-media era is that everyone can use the self-media platform to make output. As long as they can continue to output in a certain field, the output of high-quality content will continue to generate value for others. No matter how ordinary this person's qualifications are, he can become a small personal IP.
Wang Zhuan introduced five output methods in the book, which everyone can learn from:

is the most basic and commonly used output method. For example, I have been writing articles for output in my spare time. Among them, I focus on the field of book reviews. I output and share my reading gains through book reviews, which not only helps me learn more solidly, but also gains the attention of many fans because of book reviews, which helps me accumulate personal influence little by little.

✔ The second type: make video sharing

✔The third type: live broadcast sharing
Live broadcast sharing is more demanding, because there is no way to read the manuscript, basically it is output directly to the mobile phone, which tests a person's on-the-spot reaction ability and solid content ability.
Live sharing is an ability that I will focus on strengthening in 2023. I plan to do live reading and sharing from January 1st.

✔ The fourth way: give offline lectures and share
Although the number of readers in offline lectures is limited at one time, it is a kind of in-depth interaction and the sense of presence is enhanced. Generally speaking, writing articles, making videos, and doing live broadcasts in the early stage have accumulated a certain amount of influence. Recruiting fans and friends to participate in offline lectures will often achieve good results.
✔The fifth way: write a book and share it.
Writing a book is something almost every IP will do. Once it has influence, publishing houses will chase him, hoping that the author can publish a book, because after this kind of IP publishes a book, there is no need to worry about initial sales, fans will come to buy new books.
Writing a book is indeed a good way to systematically summarize and output one's knowledge. At the same time, the book will in turn bring continuous influence and exposure to personal IP.
This is something that comes naturally. There is no need to rush at first. Just do the output in a down-to-earth manner and continue to generate value for others. God will have his own arrangements in the future.
Judging from my observations of many IP and talented people around me, in the early stage, they immersed themselves in learning and output, regardless of how much they paid, and shared without reservation. The rewards they received in the future were often completely beyond their own expectations.
This is what I plan to focus on in 2023. Starting from the book review articles on the public account, I will continue to output high-quality content. In addition to book reviews, I will also write articles about personal growth and inner exploration. I will share my interpretation of the good books I have read through live broadcasts, and of course I will also share my writing methods.
Finally, through continuous accumulation, I will create a book review writing course and start my personal IP road.
I will continue to do reading and writing. What has changed is only the form. I used to write articles, now I am learning to do live broadcasts, and I will try to make videos in the future; what remains unchanged in is the core, which is the pursuit of good content, curiosity and thirst for knowledge in personal growth and inner exploration.
