Luoyang Ship: The "star ship" of the Chinese Navy and the pride of Luoyang people.
According to my country's naval ship naming regulations, aircraft carriers are named after provinces, large destroyers are named after provincial capital cities, frigates are named after prefecture-level cities, and large supply ships are named after lakes. Landing ships are named after mountains. Therefore, every warship launched by the Navy is a kind of supreme glory for the named city. Luoyang is the most dazzling city among prefecture-level cities, and it is the ancient capital with the longest time since its establishment in my country. Therefore, most naval ships named after Luoyang are relatively advanced warships.
There are two warships named after Luoyang, which have made great achievements in guarding the sea. The first "Luoyang Ship" was a British "Bathurst" class ocean-going minesweeper built in Australia during World War II. It is reported that the ship has a standard displacement of 815 tons and a full load displacement of 1,150 tons. It was a relatively advanced ship at that time. After the end of World War II, the modified ship was sold to Hong Kong and was built into the "Xiangxing" merchant ship. In 1949, when the People's Navy was first built and an advanced ship was urgently needed, the "Xiangxing" merchant ship became a pragmatic choice.
After several setbacks, the "Xiangxing" merchant ship regained its combat effectiveness and became a frigate, which was named Luoyang ship. The Luoyang ship is equipped with two Soviet-style 100mm artillery and two Soviet-style 37mm artillery, with a speed of 15 knots. At that time, the People's Navy was relatively weak, and the Luoyang ship was quite strong. On February 15, 1968, the Luoyang ship was awarded the honorary hull number 53-220. In 1982, the Luoyang ship was decommissioned. After many years, my country's guided missile frigate has achieved rapid development.
In 2005, the domestically-made new guided missile frigate was launched and was named Luoyang ship again. Compared with the old Luoyang ship, the new Luoyang ship has an advanced fire control system and domestically-made missiles, which can simultaneously strike at sea, land, and air targets. The degree of automation is extremely high, and the combat effectiveness is already worlds apart. The Luoyang ship attracted much attention at the beginning of its service. It is reported that the Luoyang ship is a 053H3 frigate, a second-generation fully enclosed guided missile frigate designed and built for my country in the 1990s.
On April 23, 2009, the Luoyang ship participated in the Navy’s 60th anniversary naval parade, demonstrating the mighty and majestic posture of the People’s Navy in the new era. In 2014, the 16th Chinese navy escort fleet composed of the Luoyang ship, the Yancheng ship, and the Taihu ship successfully completed the cruise mission in the Gulf of Aden and visited Angola, Cameroon, South Africa and other countries. If the old Luoyang ship witnessed the difficult start of the People’s Navy, then the new Luoyang ship witnessed the strength of the People’s Navy. Although the new Luoyang ship has been in service for 15 years, the performance of the People’s Navy, which is developing in a spurt, is not as good as the new frigates that have entered service in recent years. In any case, the Luoyang ship is the "star ship" of the Chinese Navy and the pride of Luoyang people.
