Due to the uneven distribution of inheritance, the precious ancient book collection of the historian Mr. Liu Yizheng was either set on fire or torn into pieces... Mr. Liu, who had been kneeling to save the collection of books, knew this. I wonder what he would think?
"The Chinese nation pays more attention to history than any other nation in the world!" Mr. Liu Yizheng said. In his opinion, the historical books passed down by the ancestors are history, and the cultural wealth formed by these texts is of immeasurable value!
Who is Liu Yizheng? This figure we are not very familiar with was one of the 28 academicians of the humanities during the Republic of China. He is as famous as Chen Yinke, Hu Shi, Fu Sinian and other literary greats!
html In 11880, Liu Yizheng was born in Zhenjiang Dantu, a scholarly family. His father died of illness when he was young, and his mother worked hard to raise him. Liu Yizheng was also very impressive. He passed the scholar examination at the age of 17 and was known as the local "child prodigy". In 1901, Liu Yizheng, who was successful in his studies, came to the ancient capital Nanjing from his hometown Zhenjiang. With his outstanding talent, he found an editor's job in Jiangchu Compilation Bureau.
Mr. Miao Quansun, the editor-in-chief of the Compilation and Translation Bureau at that time, saw that the boy could be taught, so he accepted Liu Yizheng as his disciple. Under the guidance of his teacher, Liu Yizheng spent a year compiling "A Brief History of the Past Dynasties", which became the first history textbook in the modern history of our country.

The word "history" used in modern times is derived from the abbreviation of "History of the Past Dynasties" and has been used for hundreds of years.
Mr. Liu Yizheng taught at Nanjing Central University for a long time. In the 1930s, he served as the director of Nanjing (Capital) Library, and his academic reputation was unparalleled.
In order to make it easier for scholars to access information, Liu Yizheng pioneered the "residence-based system". Not only does it allow readers to stay in the library, but its respect for learning is admirable!
In 1934, Cai Shangsi, a later literary and historical figure, lived and studied here for a year and wrote the historical masterpiece "History of Chinese Thought". He once emotionally called the Chinese Studies Library his "alma mater" and regarded Mr. Liu as his "first mentor."
During the Anti-Japanese War, Nanjing was about to fall. In order to protect the collection of ancient books, Liu Yizheng organized the library staff to sort and pack the books and secretly hide them in the basement of Chaotian Palace.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Liu Yizheng cried many times and begged to be accepted as a senior official, and even "knelt down to beg", and finally recovered 180,000 ancient books. During the entire process of protecting and searching for books, Liu Yizheng suffered two strokes, which was difficult for ordinary people to imagine.
Thinking about the ups and downs of history back then, and then looking at the faces of future generations today, one can’t help but sigh!
In 1956, Mr. Liu Yizheng, a humble gentleman, died of illness. He lived a frugal life and lived frugally. After his death, his family had no money left, leaving only a collection of more than 10 boxes of books. Unexpectedly, the ancient books that these old gentlemen regarded as treasures would end up like this!
It's easy to destroy an old object in the blink of an eye. However, it can take months or even years to repair the damaged objects.

Statistics show that in 2007, there were less than 100 professional restorers of ancient books in the country, and this industry was also called an "endangered industry."
Since the implementation of the Chinese Ancient Books Protection Plan, more than 9,000 people across the country have participated in relevant training. However, the restoration team of nearly ten thousand people is very small compared with the ancient books that need to be restored.
According to expert estimates, with the current staffing configuration, it will take nearly a thousand years to barely restore the ancient books in the collection.
Ancient book restorer Xie Longlong said plainly: "This is a job that does not require talking, and it is also a profession that requires you to endure loneliness. You don't make much money, but you have to worry a lot!"
What do you think of the profession of ancient book protection and ancient book restorer?
