The U.S. Air Force announces candidate locations for the U.S. Space Command headquarters

According to a report by NASA, the US Air Force announced on November 19 that it had selected six military bases as candidate bases for the US Space Command. The six finalists were Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado; Cortland Air Force Base in New Mexico; Patrick Air Force Base in Florida; Red Rock Army Airfield in Alabama; Joint Base San Antonio in Texas; and Prior to this, the U.S. Air Force decided to launch an open tender process on May 15 to select the permanent location of the U.S. Space Command.

The U.S. Air Force said it expects to select a location in early 2021, but it will take six years to build a new facility. During this period, the US Space Command will remain at its temporary headquarters at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado.

After the media leaked the 2019 list, politicians from Florida, Texas and other states claimed that the process was unfair and demanded that their state be considered.
