M27 IAR rifle, the new-generation standard weapon of the US Marine Corps. The first batch was officially purchased in 2010. In the past ten years, Ma Run has purchased hundreds of thousands of M27 IARs. The trend to completely replace the M4 carbine. Not only that, the scope of application of this weapon is far wider than we imagined. It is not only an automatic rifle, but also a general-purpose machine gun and a precision shooter rifle, achieving three functions into one.
If you want to talk about the M27 IAR rifle, you have to start with the 2001 Afghanistan War. After the 9/11 incident, the United States summoned a multinational coalition force to send troops to Afghanistan with the intention of destroying extremist organizations in one fell swoop, but the "imperial cemetery" was not so easy to fight. The mountainous environment of Afghanistan made the US military suffer a lot.
Ordinary infantry is better. The machine gunner is the hardest. After all, the weight of a M249 SAW general machine gun + 200 rounds of ammunition box can reach 10kg, and the machine gunner has to move in the rugged mountains. The physical exhaustion can be imagined.
Many people say that the advantages of general-purpose machine guns are high rate of fire and long-lasting firepower, but according to Ma Run’s actual combat feedback in Afghanistan, they found that the actual performance of the machine gun is not as good as the paper data, because the bullet chain of the machine gun is easy Stuck, causing frequent failures and affecting combat effectiveness. This made the military a little disappointed with the general-purpose machine gun (SAW), so they set their sights on the individual automatic rifle (IAR), hoping to let the rifle replace the machine gun.
In 2005, the Marine Corps held the selection of a new generation of IAR. At that time, three companies participated. The first one was Colt, a major American manufacturer. They selected two IAR rifles, namely Colt 6940 and Colt 6940H (heavy barrel). These two models inherited the direct air blowing principle of AR. However, there was a problem with the design, and many failures occurred during the test, which was eliminated by Ma Run.
The second company is the Belgian FN company, and they chose the FNH IAR rifle. The performance of this sample gun is very good. After all, it is a SCAR-L rifle. It is loved by Ma Run in terms of performance, but the problem is that it is too expensive. FNH IAR's price is close to twice that of Colt, and the Marine Corps is the largest The problem is that he has no money (the helplessness of the fourth class) and can only choose to give up.
The third one is the German H&K company, and the HK IAR rifle was sent. The performance of this weapon is not inferior to FNH IAR, but H&K is very clever. They hired former Delta Special Forces instructor Larry Vickers as a consultant to fully understand the needs of the US military for weapons, and make improvements based on these needs. Lowered the offer price (HK IAR price is about 15% lower than FNH IAR).
In contrast, the Marine Corps will naturally choose the HK IAR with excellent performance and relatively low price, and later renamed it M27 IAR.
In 2010, the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Afghanistan officially replaced with M27 IAR rifles. Accordingly, M249 SAW general machine guns were eliminated in batches.
The early M27 IAR rifle is equipped with a heavy barrel, which has good heat capacity and can fire more bullets than ordinary rifles, so as to meet the positioning of the team's automatic weapons. In addition, a bipod and a vertical grip are installed, so that whether it is shooting in prone position or moving shooting, it can increase stability.
M27 IAR rifle replaces the position of the M249 SAW machine gun, but its base is still a rifle, and its performance is indeed much stronger than that of the M4 carbine, so starting in 2015, the Marine Corps expanded the M27 IAR The number of orders is listed as a single-soldier automatic rifle, and the infantry does not need to be greedy.
M27 IAR rifle also has a derivative model-the M38 precision shooter rifle. The core structure of the two weapons is exactly the same. The M27 itself has high accuracy (2 MOA), and a high installationThe magnification scope is M38, which acts as a precision weapon for the team.
Marine Corps’ small abacus can be described as flying, because an M27 IAR can hold the functions of three weapons, which not only facilitates logistics, but also has the same operation method, even for machine gunners or precision Shooters are injured or killed, and infantry can quickly take their place and continue to exert their combat effectiveness.
