The patrol ship (Humaitá C-2) has sunk. In response, the Paraguayan Navy responded that the patrol ship was only "slightly tilted" and flooded. It has sent divers to start clearing the water from the ship and trying to restore the ship's position.
Paraguay's "La Moment" reported on December 26 that according to Carlos Díaz, commander of the Paraguayan Navy's combat fleet, the "Jumeita C-2" patrol ship and the "Paraguay C-1" patrol ship were one of the "most important logistics components" of the Paraguayan Navy during the Chaco War (Guerra del Chaco). After the Chaco War, the two ships served as training ships and are still performing their tasks of defending sovereignty.
Dias explained that the so-called "sinking of the patrol ship Humaita C-2" was just a small incident. Affected by the typical weather of the season, a small amount of water entered the stern of the ship, causing the ship to tilt to the port side, which in turn caused water to enter the side of the ship.
Dias said that the ship is still safely anchored and has not sunk. Since the 26th, divers have been sent to clear the water inside the ship and right the ship until it is in a normal position. The Paraguayan Navy also promoted its work related to the relocation of the "Humaita C-2" patrol ship through social networks.
Regarding this incident, historian Fabián Chamorro condemned the negligence of the Paraguayan Navy on social networks.
"In short, what the Paraguayan Navy means is 'our ship only sunk one of its sides'. Today's patrol ship 'Humaita C-2' is like a portrayal of Paraguay, from its past glory to its current sinking. They sold or destroyed the ship like scrap, as is usually done with cultural relics, and they are obviously confused." Chamorro commented.
