Like other provincial military regions, the Military Department of the Corps performs the duties and authority of the provincial military region, and also performs functions such as national defense mobilization, military service management, militia construction, military-civilian contact, and national defense facility protection. In addition, it also undertakes military combat functions such as border defense, foreign combat, and reserve marshalling. Therefore, unlike the inland provincial military regions that did not control combat troops after the military reform, the Military Department of the Corps directly commanded and controlled a considerable number of combat troops, such as the service support battalion, the guard communication battalion, the mobile unit and other direct forces, as well as several independent battalions/companies stationed in major cities of the Corps.
It should be pointed out in particular that the militia team under the Military Department of the Corps is known as the "strongest combat power in the country, the strongest cohesion and the strongest execution power in the country". It can fight when it is recruited and come. For example, in early 2020, the Corps mobilized and organized more than 200,000 cadres, staff and militia to carry out winter training at one time, and this scale is admirable.
