US media " New York Times " recently quoted current and former officials as saying that the PLA's recent exercises against Taiwan can be seen that mainland China may use island closure as a prelude to attack Taiwan, and Taiwan has to support the United States or other forces in the intervention. After the US has studied the PLA's exercises, it is strengthening its efforts to build a huge weapon inventory in Taiwan. The report said that the United States continues to transport lightweight but effective and precise weapons to assist Ukraine in resisting more powerful Russian troops, highlighting the importance of weapons inventory.
In response to the situation where the US factors make the cross-strait situation more tense, Gao Chang said in an interview with China Commentary News Agency that Taiwan has limited voice on such issues because it is small. The United States takes Taiwan to the front line as a pawn. The real purpose is to fight the mainland and use Taiwan to anger the mainland, rather than really wanting to help Taiwan.
Gao Chang believes that, but from the perspective of the Russian-Ukraine war, the United States' attitude seems to be to use Ukraine to achieve its goal of attacking Russia. From the perspective of international hegemony competition, the Russian-Ukraine war was even more like a blow to the United States, using Ukraine to attack Russia, and then the conflict between Russia and European countries became even greater, and the economy of EU was also pulled down, and the US economy was better. Just like in World War II, the battlefield was not in the United States, so the United States provided supplies, but the United States became popular because of this. The current Russian-Ukrainian war has the same meaning.
Back to the Taiwan Strait, Gao Chang said that this will make people think about whether the United States should help Taiwan or whether it should treat Taiwan as a pawn like Ukraine, but such a form of evolution is not good for Taiwan. The main reason is that Taiwan has no say at all. In the past, Taiwan was dependent on the United States and the United States also had an important role in cross-strait issues. This made Taiwan unable to postpone or reject the so-called help from the United States at present, even if it is well aware of the purpose behind the United States.
Gao Chang believes that this will make Taiwan step by step to the edge of war, but in fact, there is no need for Taiwan to take the step of war. The government and the opposition should have this consensus at present. But if the big brother of the United States wants to do this, Taiwan has no say, which is the most troublesome thing.
Gao Chang mentioned that the United States will have a midterm election in November next, and it will be more anti-China within. Even if the current Biden administration is dovish and hawkish, if the dovish voice cannot be heard, Taiwan will inevitably be pulled forward.
