In the spring of 1948, in order to continue to lead the war to the area ruled by the National Army and further open up the situation, the Central Military Commission decided that Liu and Deng’s main force would withdraw from the Dabie Mountains, cooperate with Chen Yi , and Su Yu’s army to carry out a larger-scale battle in the Central Plains. On February 24, the front command post led by Deng Xiaoping and the rear command post led by Liu Bocheng successfully met in Weizhai, Linquan County, Anhui Province. At this point, the task of advancing into Zhongyuan was successfully completed.
