Zhang Xueliang is a very legendary figure in modern times, especially in the Xi'an Incident, he played a role in promoting history.
However, Zhang Xueliang himself and his family suffered a rough fate because of this. Although he gave birth to several sons, most of them did not die well.

1. A young man is romantic, but his fame as a young marshal eventually pays off.
Zhang Xueliang’s father Zhang Zuolin is a generational hero. As a person of ordinary origin, Zhang Zuolin finally became the king of Northeast China at that time through his own hard work. Although Zhang Zuolin was a warlord, under the circumstances at the time, Zhang Zuolin was quite powerful in dealing with Japan and Tsarist Russia, both in terms of courage and means.
But Zhang Xueliang does not have his father's skills. After taking over the power in the Northeast, Zhang Xueliang chose to cooperate with Chiang Kai-shek, which promoted Chiang Kai-shek's nominal unification. However, during the September 18th Incident, , because the Northeastern Army withdrew from the Northeast without firing a shot, Zhang Xueliang suffered a serious infamy.
This incident greatly stimulated Zhang Xueliang, and he was very eager to regain his reputation. However, Chiang Kai-shek still wanted him to fight the civil war, and even went to Xi'an himself to urge him to fight the civil war.
So on December 12, 1936, Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng detained Chiang Kai-shek and carried out military remonstrance against Chiang Kai-shek. Because of Zhang Xueliang's military remonstrance, , Chiang Kai-shek, , who originally had his own Xiaojiujiu in his heart, had to choose to resist Japan unanimously. But this also laid the foundation for the tragic fate of Zhang Xueliang's family.
Before this, Zhang Xueliang's life could be described as happy. His first wife Yu Fengzhi was betrothed to him by his father. Because Yu Fengzhi's father is Zhang Zuolin's close friend, it is unknown whether Zhang Xueliang likes Yu Fengzhi, but Yu Fengzhi likes Zhang Xueliang very much. It can even be said that he loves Zhang Xueliang.
Zhang Xueliang, a young and wealthy man, met Zhao Yidi at a banquet. Although Zhang Xueliang was married at this time, Zhao Yidi still fell in love with him. After Yu Fengzhi learned about this incident, instead of blaming Zhang Xueliang, he showed great concern for Zhao Yidi.

Zhang Xueliang and his first wife Yu Fengzhi had three sons and one daughter. The only daughter was named Zhang Luying. As the daughter of Zhang Luying, she is considered the luckiest among Zhang Xueliang’s children. She has been favored by Zhang Xueliang since she was born, and has lived a life of thousands of favors since she was a child.
And she also learned some emotional lessons from her mother's marriage. In the end, she rejected the marriage proposal from Kong Xiangxi's son, and married a person she loved, becoming a famous divine couple. But because of the Xi'an Incident, Zhang Lvying also lived abroad for a long time and settled in the United States for a long time.
Only after Zhang Xueliang was released from house arrest in 1990, could she have the opportunity to go back to the island to see her father every year.
Zhang Luying has three younger brothers. They are Zhang Luxun , Zhang Luqi , and Zhang Luqi . But almost all of Yu Fengzhi's three sons had a bad fate.
2. Shuzi died early, and the fate of the Northeastern princes was bumpy.
Zhang Luxun, as Zhang Xueliang’s eldest son, was originally the main force in inheriting the Zhang family’s business in that society at that time. If nothing unexpected happened, he would become the third generation Northeastern king. We have also seen what happened later. Zhang Xueliang took the initiative to change Northeast to . Northeast King Zhang Luxun definitely had nothing to do.
Later, Zhang Xueliang launched the Xi'an Incident and went to send Chiang Kai-shek back in person. As a result, he was detained by Chiang Kai-shek, and this detention lasted for more than fifty years.It didn't matter that Zhang Xueliang himself was detained. He couldn't let his son be implicated, so under the arrangements of Yu Fengzhi and others, the young Zhang Luxun was sent to London, England.
I thought that London could escape the danger of being persecuted by Chiang Kai-shek at home, but who knew that London was not safe either.
Zhang Luxun was still very young at that time, but London was regarded as a key bombing target by Germany during the Second World War. Zhang Luxun, who was separated from his parents at a young age, suffered from mental disorder in London because of the long-term fear of being bombed.
Later, Yu Fengzhi had to go to the United States to work hard because of illness. She brought Zhang Luxun back and comforted and treated him, but the results were still average. In 1954, 37-year-old Zhang Luxun died young of septicemia.
And Zhang Luxun is not the only one who is unlucky. Zhang Luxun's younger brother Zhang Luqi is even more miserable.
In theory, this young grandson of the former Northeast King should have lived a life of a young master with no worries about food and clothing. Who knew that in 1931, he died of tuberculosis at the age of 12.
This was a huge blow to Zhang Xueliang at that time. Coupled with the fact that he was under house arrest following the Xi'an Incident and suffered the death of several children one after another, this was really too cruel for Zhang Xueliang.
His second son Zhang Lujuan did not escape the misfortune. Zhang Lujuan is actually the most like Zhang Xueliang. He is as lively and lively as Zhang Xueliang, and has a strong body and strong personal talents. After encountering the Xi'an Incident, he went to the United States to study. Zhang Lujuan lived quite well in the United States at first. He married a wife and had children there and enjoyed a good life.
Although this is indeed nothing compared to the life of the Northeast King, now that Zhang Xueliang is under house arrest, it is not bad to be able to live a free and wealthy life.
For Zhang Xueliang, who is under house arrest on a small island, although he himself cannot go out and move around freely, it is also a good thing for his son to be able to live freely outside. Who knew that Zhang Lujuan also encountered an accident? Less than four years after the death of his brother Zhang Luxun, he died in a sudden car accident.
For Zhang Xueliang, a once high-spirited young marshal, this was like a bolt from the blue.
3. The only good thing is that Zhang Lulin stayed away from the dispute and survived.
The good young marshal was killed, but he still had to suffer the pain of losing his son three times in a row. Fortunately, Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi still had a son, his only surviving son Zhang Lulin.
When Zhang Xueliang was first placed under house arrest, Yu Fengzhi was still with him. But later Yu Fengzhi suffered from cancer and had to go to the United States for treatment. At this time, Zhao Yidi took the initiative to stand up and went to Zhang Xueliang's side to accompany him through the difficult time. But just like Yu Fengzhi treated Zhang Luxun, Zhao Yidi was not willing to let her son suffer there with her.
So she sent her ten-year-old son to the United States early.
It is normal for Zhao Yidi to love her son so much, but she did not expect that the separation from her son would last for sixteen years.
And in order to protect her children, the Americans who were responsible for taking care of Zhang Lulin gave the grandson of the former Northeast King a completely Westernized education since he was a child, not even exposing him to Chinese language and Chinese history. Under Zhang Xueliang's situation at the time, this was probably the best protection for him. Therefore, there were no surprises behind Zhang Lulin.
In 1956, Zhang Lulin finally found the opportunity and went to the island to visit his parents, who had been missing for more than ten years.
Although Zhang Lulin was separated from traditional society since childhood, after meeting his parents, the Chinese spirit in his bones was still involuntarily inspired. From then on, he went to Baodao to visit Zhang Xueliang almost every year. This was one of the few highlights in Zhang Xueliang's house arrest career in his later years.
Zhang Lulin himself is quite outstanding. Under the training of his American adoptive parents, he gradually became an outstanding aviation talent in the United States and got a good job in the United States. At the same time, he also found his wife and gave birth to two children. These two children made Zhang Xueliang very excited, and he personally named his two grandchildren in the United States.
Zhang Xueliang's two grandsons are called Zhang Juxin and Zhang Juyang respectively. It can be seen that Zhang Xueliang has very strong feelings for these two grandsons.
After the Kuomintang finally stopped imprisoning Zhang Xueliang in 1990, Zhang Xueliang had two important dreams: one was to return to his hometown to worship his father Zhang Zuolin; the other was to go to his son and grandson and enjoy a life together. The family happiness of ordinary old people.
4. As his last wish, Zhang Xueliang’s son went to pay homage to Zhang Zuolin
After some twists and turns, he finally came to the United States and lived with Zhang Lulin’s family here, and lived a relatively happy old life from then on. But Zhang Xueliang still had another wish, which was to return to the Northeast and move Zhang Zuolin's tomb to Marshal Lin in Fushun.
And he also has the traditional Chinese concept of returning to his roots in his later years.
But his wish was difficult to achieve. He secretly planned to return to the mainland, but Lee Teng-hui slapped him with a big label, saying that he wanted to cause a second Xi'an Incident. To be honest, Zhang Xueliang was already in his twilight years at this time. How could he still have the ability to carry out the Xi'an Incident? It was the Kuomintang that made him feel uncomfortable.
So this became his lifelong regret - he could never return to the Northeast to worship his ancestors.
Fortunately, his son was still free, so in 1994, Zhang Lulin replaced his father and returned to Northeast China to pay homage to his grandfather Zhang Zuolin. When he was paying homage to Zhang Zuolin, he couldn't even speak a decent Chinese sentence.
He chanted in front of the grave: I came to see you on behalf of your son.
However, this ancestor worship activity still had a great impact on him, especially on his two sons . His two sons were also top students in the United States, but under the influence of Zhang Xueliang and Zhang Lulin, they began to yearn for China. Zhang Lulin returned to China many times, and Zhang Juxin also went to Peking University for further studies.
In 2004, Zhang Juxin became a part-time professor at Northeastern University. This can be regarded as fulfilling Zhang Xueliang's dream of returning home!
